I just received this message from Steemit - "you can only comment once every 20 seconds"steemCreated with Sketch.

I come across something in Steemit that I had never seen before, so I wanted to pass it along.

I wanted to send short thank-you messages to the people who commented on one my posts:
What countries are represented in the Steemit Community? Over 15? Let's find out!

I was doing a simple copy and paste when I received the following error message:

You may only comment once very 20 seconds

I can think of two reasons why this rule is a good idea.

  1. Encourages people to have thoughtful responses, instead of just copying and pasting generic thoughts (although I can see scenarios where copy and paste are appropriate).
  2. Reduces the impact of bots producing mass responses, however, this rule will not completely eliminate the problem.

Can you think of any reasons why this rule is not good for the Steemit community?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Update: I changed title of this post.

Depending on your Steem Power you can comment more often or less.

Steem uses a system called dynamic bandwidth limiting, in order to achieve a fee-free blockchain experience. Owners of Steem Power actually own the network, or more correctly a portion of it. With that ownership comes the right to use a portion of the network bandwidth. The more you own, the more you can use, which means the more frequently you can post, vote etc. even in a period of high load.

Thanks for the very informative comment. I appreciate it man!

I have learned a lot, but I still have some much to learn. Excited to be hitting my one month anniversary soon!

Again great information. Started following you!

Yes I know, but it is very enough I find. I think limit during the beta but one day will be removed. In any case I will follow your blog because I like this kind of information on Steemit and that you look sympathetic

Thanks @izbing for your comment and for following me. I appreciate it. Have a great day!

I have seen this a couple of times... Sometimes when I have comments on my posts, I reply with a simple "Thank you", and this easily triggers the 20 second limit if I don't keep it in mind.

Did you know that there is also a 5 minute limit between posts?

I did not realize that. Thanks for the info!

Apparently the time limits can change based on how much steem power you have. The more you have the longer the limits (at least that is what someone told me).
