When i first joined steemit, i wasn't earning. Basically, i was earning cents. I didn't get discouraged though, because even though, i have been on the internet for up to a decade, practicing entrepreneurship, i have never earned a dime!
Steem technology for me, is an fascinating technology thus, something way bigger than a place to earn!
I started getting some earning on steemit, after sometime and earning on steemit feels like recognition as well.
I have one post in the past voted upon by @ned and it did feel good!
I then had a few other posts that earned bigger than cents but it took me time to figure out what was going! It took me a pretty long time, to know that most, among the few of my posts that earned like $10 or so where picked up or recognized by @curie and that is why these posts, earned!
Knowledge of this got to me, when i noticed that one post of mine, in the {TIL} category, had a potential earning of around $15. I won't lie; this was exciting at the time! It was going to be my first real earning but above all, i then noticed, that my post was featured by @curie!
That post ended though, with around $4, as it eventually got flagged!
After recovering from the flagging trauma, i got restored posting as i now knew how to post better. I start to have a few posts earning more than cents and sometimes in the range of $10 or more. This kept happening but it took me quite a period and maybe months, for me to figure out that @curie had a hand, in all my posts that earned big!
It became almost obvious, that without @curie, earning my 1k steempower perhaps, wouldn't have been possible!
I got to a reputation of 62 and at this point, i think i may have graduated away from the category of steemians, who @curie tends to.
I still have the other parameters required though; like, i am still slightly over 1k steempower, which is way below @curie's requirement of 3k steempower maximum!
Now, the question is can i really earn or have earned steempower without @curie in my steemit journey? "i largely doubt!"
I wish, i can have been really grateful to @curie much earlier but i didn't know at the time, that most of my posts that got a weighty earning had @curie's hand in it.
It will please me, if @curie adjusted its rules a bit as i believe there are many steemians, who are within the other parameter's required by @curie and are still struggling with getting seen or earning from their valuable posts; but who have already attained a reputation of 62.
I am so grateful to @curie. They have taken charge of my steemit story but i think number of amazing posts on steemit increases drastically; daily; incessantly and @curie initiative; needs help!
"So where are @robinhoodwhale @steemprentice @steemsquad @steemtrail @minnowsunite?"
"Where are you guys; to help make the load of @curie light?"
Today, i came across contests on steemit, that i have hardly heard about and there are indeed many of them.
I saw individual initiatives practicing giving; by giving a portion of their earnings to inspire the masses of steemians. Several efforts by at @papa-pepper and "Throw You a Bone" program by @kus-knee. I have also seen {nameinlights} by @williambanks.
Bottomline is, there is a bulk of information that we get to miss out on for a really long time, even though we are on steemit daily.
How do we make finding these initiatives, contests etc more findable?
Are there other initiatives that exist, similar to @curie @robinhoodwhale @steemprentice @steemsquad @steemtrail @minnowsunite; that have began but we haven't heard about?
Steemit is growing really fast and these means many noobs who will need support!
@curie you have been too great. I wish i still get the chance again to be touched by you, sometime in the near future!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. These discussions help to make Steem a more vibrant blockchain.
Each of these projects has its own focus, making them largely complementary to one another. But we really don't wan't them all doing the same thing either.
Curie does an amazing job of bring recognition to authors that are not getting noticed. They especially try to find newer authors that are producing content that should rise to the top. As the platform grows, this becomes increasingly difficult, meaning that it becomes more needed. RobinhoodWhale steps up to the plate in this regard, helping in a similar fashion, but with slightly different internal dynamics and focus. MinnowsUnite and SteemSquad were designed for the same purpose, again with different internal dynamics and methodology.
SteemTrail does not try to reinvent this wheel at all. The focus is on content, regardless of payout. This makes us different - not better and not worse, just different. While sometimes we will vote on a new author's work if it isn't quite as good as we'd like, in order to encourage, our focus will continue to be to seek out the best content. We're more akin to Steem Guild in this regard, though we work differently internally.
With our trail, we can currently only upvote about 40 articles a day without diminishing the trail's voting power significantly. In spite of the fact that our trail is the third largest, without counting other trails that follow, we don't have the whale-power that would allow us to reduce each vote power and still have a decent impact if we vote more often. It's a balancing act that we must maintain in order to respect the voting power of our followers. Even at this rate, some have opted to reduce how much voting power they convey to the SteemTrail operator.
Currently there are about a half-dozen or so active teams focusing on specific topics. And we offer TRAIL coins as participation rewards, where Steem isn't designed to. Again, this isn't better or worse. It's complementary and we're convinced that it helps the community as a whole.
We welcome more participants to come help and improve the work being done. We'll continue doing the best we can to promote outstanding content on the Steem blockchain, and rewarding those who participate in seeking it out. If you would like to ask questions or become more involved, come to our Discord server and join us. We have a hangout there each day at 6pm Central to answer questions as well.

@streemtrail, thank you alot. cos you did read my post and saw the suggestion aspect of it. like you said it did some upbuilding as i for one, already found knowledge that i didnt even know existed. for instance, as a result of the comment on my post, i found this post that coincidentally was written just after my post and seems just like the answer to my post: https://steemit.com/steemit/@donkeypong/steem-guild-an-update.
your comment just finalized the explanation. that these guilds are out to accomplish different things. left to me i wouldn't know that robinhoodwhale is still functional. i just remember that guild as it was the first i knew when i first got on steemit. i did join steemtrail sometime ago. i had a comment on my post once and got on the discord but didn't know of the hangout part for questions. i am currently a member of steemtrail channel but didnt really know how to function when i got on there. i saw i got a trail coin once and got an openledger account but left it at that.

This is what the Steem Guild is for. I just resteemed their post and I didn't look to see if your name is on their list but mine is :)
Large gobs of my early big rewards actually came from @anyx @berniesanders @smooth and some others, it was a bit of a thrill when I started seeing @ned showing up at the top of voting lists, but that came later.
I think that once Steem has well proven itself, maybe in the next 6-9 months the price will start to travel a long way upwards, and your rewards will still be the same in Steem, but the Dollar value will be higher again. Back when I started in September, a post I made that did $278 rewards would now only be worth about $50, and I get this amount of vote power thrown at my posts once or twice a month usually.
I think that unless you are living somehere with below-first-world living costs Steem writing is probably just a hobby and maybe a way to share stuff that may have other indirect rewards, like fame, or just satisfying the urge to say something... But if Steem was at $1 in a few months time, and you didn't consider the Steem worth trying to draw out, you might manage to catch another wave upwards as everyone scrambles to get their paws on some Steem, the new cool thing du jour...

yep, i dont think in the direction of drawing out. i dont even know how to yet. i beleive in steem and its potential. the steemit model on its own is genius. i am grateful that you took out time to write me a lenghty comment. i didnt really know of steem guild. i didnt understand the beginning of your comment well enough when you talked of resteeming their post and of a list that your name is on. overall tho, i am glad to know there is steem guild as well. posting on steemit is something that fulfills me, thus, i regardless of rewards, i love the steemit journey.

When Curie touches your post, you're blessed 😂. Consistency in putting out content people love will get you the attention and validation you deserve. I'm afraid I'll get to reputation 62 before hitting 1k SP 😃

hahaha, very possible! very possible! but we'll have to keep on. i am suggesting that the other curation guilds are fully restored so the load isnt too much for @curie. steemit is growing and so is the content load

I usually upvote your posts when they're not entirely about Steemit, if I see them in time. Just focus on bringing us some solid content about things that interest you, as you were doing before. You should see more votes coming in then.
Curie and other guilds also tend to avoid Steemit-related content. So that could be at least some of the problem.

All my post that have really made any high amount of money has been featured. I think in the long run though you just need to keep putting out good content and hope for the best. Stay active and try to create a following.

yep, same here! although it took me long to figure that out. i am gratefully to @curie really. yep, i will definitely keep posting. my fulfillment comes from these things. doing something. i steem as something bigger than the ability to earn. i havent even ventured into like depositing steem etc. i was also trying to inspire the other curation guild that used to exist to be restored to livelihood as steemit continues to grow. thank you for your inspiration

I also think that SteemTrail helps by having the different topic trails, like the @gardening-trail and the @foraging-trail. If people follow the trails for topics they are interested in, it's much easier to find good posts about those topics - and then upvote them yourself. Every post in the @gardening-trail and the @foraging-trail has been read by a real person and is added to their trail because they have something unique to offer. This makes it easier for any of us to find and upvote posts about the topics we are interested in. And it helps build connections and community among people interested in specific topics.

Thank you commenting. I need to take to looking at this trail thing. I haven't really understood it. I see these trails you mentioned on discord but haven't really understood what goes on it the chat. I will take another look

The Discord part of the trails is more like background discussion and curation. The trails themselves are on Steemit. Just like any person's account, you can follow the @gardening-trail or the @foraging-trail, or any of the others. So you will see posts by a lot of people on each trail, but the posts are focused on a specific topic.

Yep, I noticed that. Okay! Can one create his own? Does the owner of @gardening-trail etc go out on steemit to seek posts to resteem or the posters use hashtags? I saw a lot of resteemed posts. If I wanted to make a trail, I would like an inspiration-trail

Here's some information, @surpassinggoogle -- Steem Trail Daily. Go to the section "What to Do" and see how to join Discord. Then you can see what trails are there, that you might be interested in. And you may be able to get a new trail developed by connecting with the SteemTrail people named in that section. Good luck!
