I found a flaw in Steemit today. (update: The flaw's name is STEEMCLEANERS) @steemcleaners Well, one can hardly call it an error or oversight, it's more of a preference. It's based on Steemit's value system. Steemit users value novelty (newness) and original content. Since nothing is truly original or discovered, novelty is really based on "how many people have seen this before". So the flaw is... Steemit has bots that check for plagiarism. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plagiarism) If your whole article is a quotation mark and you have the link and the reference to the quotation, you can still get bot checked.
Here was my dilemma. I found an article that was copied verbatim on many different websites. Those websites receive advertising revenue for the number of times the article is viewed. Does the Author receive compensation? Here's a screenshot of the Article search for "Lightning's next act".
So, If I copy and paste this article into Steemit... alchemy occurs. What if the author didn't want the article posted on Steemit? What if they want compensation for their article's popularity? How is this kept track of? Why do only bots check the articles? Who regulates this?
Have we entered into uncharted territory?
