Coin-head is a phrase my friend, well…"coined" the other day.
As coin-heads we've seen projects come and go.
And the narrative continues to evolve rapidly.
But one constant has been this idea of a "Killer App" for Bitcoin.
Mass adoption was always coming...any day now.
And it was always coming via these killer apps:
- 2011-2012 : Bitcoin as currency.
The money of the future. Freedom from fiat! Revolution! Etc.
Then our killer app was clearly my ability to get bitcoin from 7-11 and the supermarket. #faceplam.
- 2013-2014 : The other 6 billion.
Remittances. Western Union. Need I say more?
- 2015-2016 : The Blockchain
All hail the blockchain. The future of...well...EVERYTHING!
Steemit, the Actual "Killer App"?
I never really bought into those narratives.
I didn’t mind though. As a wacky libertarian I was just glad it existed.
Mainstream adoption via a killer application didn’t concern me.
Then comes Steemit.
We may well have an actual killer app on our hands.
1). Girls, Guys, Young, Old…A Broader Demographic.
Up until Steemit this space was exclusively guys like me:
Aged 17-35, male, white, technology minded, educated, middle-class.
No other project has bought in a broad range of people. It has widened the demographic base.
There are actual beautiful women, holding digital currency.
They are setting up exchange accounts, learning how to secure their wallets, trading digital tokens like Steem.
2) A Broader Demographic Base That Gives a Shit
To broaden the demographic base is fine. Even Silk Road did that a bit.
But, motivated by Greed, this base gives a shit about it.
This is sheer madness to me.
Swarms of beautiful girls with exchange accounts. Sheer madness!
3) It's not Forced...It's Just Useful
Usually Coin-heads like to take Bitcoin/Blockchain and see what they can graft it onto.
Steemit is an application that aims to monetize micro-blogging and content curation.
You can only really do that with a crypto protocol.
Therefore Steemit is actually useful. It is not the use of a blockchain for its own sake.
4) Network Affects are Being Crushed...In Real Time
You can watch this in action. It's exciting. There is no need for false hype.
The platform has utility. It is its own hype. The way it should be.
