As a newb I enjoyed reading this. I love the idea of guidelines rather than rules. I first encountered this idea when I got the Dungeons & Dragons Basic Set for my 12th birthday, in which Gary Gygax explains that the rules should be thought of as mere guidelines in order to enable as much creative expressive freedom as possible.
