Steemit: A Platform About Content, SP Delegation or Daily Diaries? | Part 1

in steemit •  3 months ago  (edited)

Hi Phil,

I noticed you soon after you joined (more to do with the new Sports commnuity than anything else - why don't you and @httr4life merge with WOX Sports? Stronger together (I know that @httr4life is aware of the community having invited some of the members posting to migrate over)).

As somewhat of a social media/content expert with over 20 years of experience, I thought I'd share my thoughts.

What's your area of expertise? I've read your introduction but it didn't tell me much.

Here was my response, which he (@o1eh) never replied to

Take it easy on @o1eh. He's trying to do too much on Steemit and the bombs landing on his homeland make his internet intermittent so he has to prioritise his activities. Sometimes replies get missed - or in my case, postponed until I have time to think about them properly (better a late, long thoughtful reply than a brief, pointless "thanks").

It's interesting to read your thoughts and how much they align with mine from about 3.5 years ago. I don't think the conversation has changed much since then with many of the same frustrations... which I've learned to "accept".

The "Trending" algorithm and prominence of bot content has always been seen as detrimental and the hope is now that the combined brains of @steemchiller and @moecki have a feasible solution that can be implemented relatively quickly. School summer holidays proving to be a current barrier that will pass soon.

With regards to this, the "investor" argument has always been a powerful one which has always conflicted with the needs of "bloggers". I've probably written about this at some point... I vaguely recall creating some Venn diagrams. Perhaps if you're interested in getting lost in some old content, the "Steemit -> General" section of my posts archive might be of interest. Perhaps this post...? Maybe not.

I don't know where my thoughts are at the moment so apologies if this comment is a little all over the place. As you suggest, there are a handful of users who keep the social element of the platform ticking along - a handful of users who are more interested in the social element than how much their post / comment / interaction will earn them financially. This differs significantly to when @httr4life will have joined where people were joining a "social movement" underpinned by "total freedom" which alternative Social Media couldn't provide - the rewards were a bonus.

I'll also hijack this reply and mention @o1eh and @remlaps - I can't remember who wrote about Google discoverability (probably one in the post and the other in the replies) but this has gone significantly downhill since Communities were created - I.e. the loss in SEO value of the first hashtag being in the URL. You'll find that the majority of Steemit's "Google discoverable" content isn't in a community and has a relevant 1st hashtag. If we want to be better at this (which I know we do), we need non-community content (perhaps even allowing this non-community content to be promoted within a/multiple communities). Something to think about. Aligned with /promoted.

Like I said, apologies for a sub-par reply. It's early here and I'm horribly sleep deprived.

If you'd consider merging your Sports Community into WOX Sports, I can make you and @httr4life admins - I've been searching for people with your expertise for years🙂

I hadn't thought about the possibility of communities interfering with post ranking in SEO, sorry, it's not my area of training, and although I know something about it, I had never thought about it, but you seem to be very right . This directly affects the positioning of publications in a space as important as Google, which could bring writers or even investors who are interested, I suppose. Good point.

Perhaps this post...? Maybe not.

It's interesting and surprising to me that upvu has declined from 31 million to 20 million between March, 2022 and now. Not sure if other delegation-bots have soaked up the difference. If you had asked me in 2022, I would have never predicted that. Meanwhile, SC01 has increased from 10 to 13 million.

The "Trending" algorithm and prominence of bot content has always been seen as detrimental and the hope is now that the combined brains of @steemchiller and @moecki have a feasible solution that can be implemented relatively quickly.

This is a surprise. Looking forward to seeing what's in store.

the "investor" argument has always been a powerful one

Yeah, the ideal solution would be to find an alternative that's more profitable and doesn't require the annoyance of daily posting. Not sure if that's possible, but it seems like it should be. Increasingly so as daily new STEEM production declines during the next decade - I guess.

It's interesting and surprising to me that upvu has declined from 31 million to 20 million between March, 2022 and now.

I haven't checked, but I think it has to do with the introduction of upex, which gives more rewards.

I was also thinking that, and it's part of the difference but doesn't close the whole gap. The upex account has about 4.6 million.

Yes...

I happened to notice this comment in my "conversation accelerator".

Not the first time I've wished I could resteem a comment. 😉

Maybe this SEO characteristics suggests the need for some sort of hierarchy as a "best practice" posting strategy that's similar to Twitter thread aggregators. Not sure what it would look like, though. For example, would community content feed into blog posts or vice versa?

Umm...

lol. Yeah, rhetorical question. 😉

Hey @the-gorilla,

While this is not 100% my decision, I can see your point, although I'm not sure what the logistics of a merger would be like after we've already started growing that hive account.

Why don't you and @httr4life merge with WOX Sports? Stronger together

As a man of 'many hats,' my skills are a little all over the place. I have degrees in both Sociology and Visual Communications, which basically just means I'm good at working with people and content. Over the last 5-10 years, I've been more focused on sports marketing and content management across multiple platforms. I also own a production company that powers a few podcasts—nothing major, but we're growing.

What's your area of expertise? I've read your introduction, but it didn't tell me much.

I definitely was not trying to be harsh toward him. He's clearly highly intelligent and brings a lot to the chain. That may be one of those times when what I typed wasn't taken the way I meant it (lost in translation).

With an uptick in the 'search engine war' fast approaching, the time to get the site caught up in SEO terms is now. Think about all the hits this site loses over this issue right here. #ProspectiveUsers

Good to formally get acquainted with you, looking forward to future discussions.

A long time to reply...

While this is not 100% my decision, I can see your point, although I'm not sure what the logistics of a merger would be like after we've already started growing that hive account.

I don't see any reason why we can't merge into your community. I can bring my account and the @sportscurator01 account and then continue together. I just don't see enough of a user base to warrant 2 communities doing the same thing (there's enough of that on Steemit already).

I'll need to finish the existing "Last Man Standing" contest which is coming to a close (and with my dev. work, I'm not as active as I once was).

So sorry for not replying sooner. If this is still a go, whenever you're ready to make this happen, just join the community, and we'll add you as an admin and the curator account as a mod.

I guess if all is good still the next move after that would be to announce the merger to everyone else. I've spoken with @httr4life, and we're both looking forward to this.
