So I just write about anything, anything at all, and I get paid?? That's quite EASY!!
Those were the exact words I said to my friend, @timoshey, who introduced me to steemit. That was over a month ago, and I'm not going to lie, it has been one frustrating journey.
I remember the first time I visited steemit, and saw the amount of money people were making on the trending page. The first thoughts that came to my mind was, "Dayo, you have found a way to pay your bills" (And trust me, there are a lot of them)
With all the blood rushing around, I did not browse around, make connections first or even consult the all knowing"steemit manual". I just plunged in heedlessly into my introduce yourself post, and before the post even took off, it suffered tragic mechanical failure and took a nosedive
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger
Undeterred by my initial efforts, I made some little changes and jumped right into my second post. An interesting one(if I do say so myself), but that also had $0.00 after three days.
It was at this moment I knew, something was not right
So I went back to my friend, told him of of my troubles, and after minutes of him making a mockery of me, he gave me a proper introduction to steemit.
That's when I saw what I was doing wrong, which was basically everything.
I was so desperate to make money that I wasn't thinking of anything else. I was not reading people's post, wasn't commenting nor upvoting. And most importantly, I WAS NOT MEETING PEOPLE.
With that new mindset, I put a pin on all my future posts and actually took time to enjoy steemit.
There is more to steemit than cryptocurrency
When I finally took the time to enjoy steemit, I discovered a lot of fun aspects I could relate too. Movies, games, sports and entertainment.
I discovered @sportsncoffee sports quiz, @feekayo interesting life views, and recently #steemgigs and @steemsports.
I've met a lot of people, and some I've gotten to know better at steemit.chat. So yes, after a month here, steemit might have started frustratingly but I have made progress.
Here's to a better second month of steemit.

Don't forget to follow, upvote and resteem
I'm still in my first month! I think my favorite parts are the games so far. It has been a little frustrating, but not the money part, this is just a microblogging site for me, but rather finding content that isn't about microcurrency. I follow the NEW feed, and it seems like every other post is about Steem/bitcoin/etc.
Here's to humorous stories and fun animations!

Just look around in some of the non steemit related tags :)
Looking only at the trending page will give you the impression that only steemit is discussed on steemit, that isn't the case at all. It is the highest rewarded topic but theres also a lot of good art, photography, science, and technology related posters here.

Right. I actually only look at the new wall. That one is also full. Is there a resource for finding common tags? I've found "animation" and "humor" (and contests).

Welcome to Steemit. I can definitely relate to the struggles your going through. I work hard on my posts, and they struggle. But hey, it's all about building up, and there is something fun about building yourself up. When it comes to other people's posts. I tend to really read the article and engage in some chatting. I'm not quite sure how well it's working for me, but IDk, it's natural for me I guess. I'm sure one day you'll look back and smile at accomplishments you've done. Til then, keep steeming, and thanks for your wonderful post!
