*** Warning - New Phishing Scam Where Original Poster is Accused of Plagiarism ***

in steemit •  7 years ago

Hi Everyone!

I just noticed a new phishing scam that's spreading through Steemit over the last couple hours or so. The user is @gtg.witnesses and he's spreading malicious phishing links in an attempt to steal users' passwords!

DO NOT CLICK ANY LINKS FROM THIS USER - THEY LEAD TO A FAKE STEEMIT PHISHING WEBSITE!!!!

The scammer is commenting on other users' posts and saying that they copied/pasted from someone else's post. The comment will include a link to the purported original post that was copied from, but it's really a phishing link that will take you to a spoofed version of Steemit ("steemil" instead of "steemit") in an attempt to trick users into signing into the spoof site and steal their passwords.

Here's an example comment :

If you believe that you may have clicked one of these fake links, you should immediately change your Steemit password in order to protect your account!'

I ask that anyone reading this spread the word about this scam. If you wish to do more to help to stop this phishing scam, you can also flag any of this user's posts and comments as well, so that his content and spoofed links will be hidden from other users.

Best,

@therockman
