Is Steemit really going to be the future?

in steemit •  6 years ago  (edited)

Steemit is not the vehicle for mass adoption. The killer dApp may be blockchain-powered, even Steem powered, but the end user will have no idea the blockchain is there, or very minimal understanding. Steemit is a social experiment to show proof that Steem’s freemium infrastructure can work at scale.

Steem thrives due to high development velocity, and healthy ecosystem of applications (Steemit is only one app). Steemmonsters and Actifit use the same infrastructure as Steemit, for examples — there are several more. These apps are being used daily by hundreds of Steemians. For reference Steemit sees ~50,000 daily active users.

Steemit is not the future. Steem is the future. Steem (Blockchain) != Steemit (dApp). This is a common misunderstanding.

Thanks for your input, but do you think Steem can be the future even though most people don't understand what Steem is?

Yes absolutely. Billions of people use Facebook and have little to no understanding of the underlying infrastructure. HTTP protocol, React.JS etc. Steem is a layer in the stack just like those. Way back when someone probably said something like “HTTP is the future.” While vast majority of people had no idea what HTTP is or does.

Steem or something very much like Steem’s freemium transaction model will take off. The advantage Steem has is thousands of users already transacting. Steem has also been through 20 hard forks now. Each fork is a significant step, adding new functionality and addressing known issues.
