Sound without Sound

Today I read a post from @outtheshellvlog aka CryptoDeaf I was first introduced to him through a post by @ancapbarbie who described him as the “dear Abby” of Steemit. In todays post he was talking about how people were spamming his page wanting him to pay attention to content he, as person from the deaf community, is not even able to enjoy. Most videos on dtube do not have subtitles and obviously music is only of use to deaf people when it is played though a powerful sound system and they can feel the vibration. Thinking about it it made me feel sad for him and I thought how it would bother me if people kept inviting me to dance or ice skate, both things I can no longer do. these spammers obviously never read any of his posts or it would have become clear to them that their content has little to no value to him. That kind of behaviour just sucks and I came out of the whole thing with two resolutions. 1- from now on any new videos I make will have subtitles so that the deaf community can enjoy them as well. Second I will make Crypto Deaf a video to cheer him up hopefully. This video will have no sound as it is a present to him and anyone from the deaf community that might find themselves on steemit. The footage here is all royalty free footage stockfootage that I did not shoot myself I did however layer and edit it.

Aww, thank you so much ^_^ It means a lot, it does cheer me up a bit. I do know what sound is though, I have heard it before. There are sounds that I've heard for the first time by using a cheap hearing amplifier. Things I've finally heard for the first time in my entire life.

I startled and scared myself with my own footsteps in my home, I walked in and started frantically looking around trying to figure out what the noise was until I realized it was my feet on the flooring.

First time I've ever heard the whir of a fridge and the stove's vent fan, and the bathroom vent. First time I've ever heard water running in the shower. It's an amazing and alien world to me. Unfortunately the hearing amplifiers didn't filter noise and made comprehending speech worse for me, so I couldn't continue to use them even though I enjoyed hearing all the new sounds that have been previously unknown to me.

That took 30x amplification just for me to hear these extra little things that everyone else seems to hear perfectly well. I tried to sneak up on my room mate before and couldn't, he heard my footsteps and I was trying to be as quiet as I could :p now I do understand why I couldn't sneak up on him.

I am glad you got to experience it though maybe you could use one from time to time just for sounds alone not for speech just to enjoy the other stuff :)

I could, but I'll have my hearing corrected in the next couple of months all the same, so I'll have a better enjoyment and appreciation for sound. Still enjoy hearing what I can though.

Here's an example I edited an audio from a musician on dsound with a typical deaf audiogram. This will give you an idea of how music sounds. I have my system audio amplified to 300% typically. ;) I can record an audio of spoken language to edit the same way if you'd like a further dive into my world. ^_^

yes I would love that :) and thank you :)

Heh, alrighty, I'll record it and edit it accordingly later.

:)

Damn Dtube doesn't work for me sometimes... well regardless of that, you are doing a great thing, and i must say sorry to @outtheshellvlog i never thought to put subtitles in my videos too... i will surely start to do it, my grandmother is deaf and it's hard for her and for us, i don't know what i would do without one of my 5 senses... without sight, without hearing, i really don't know

Try not to think of it too much. It's really fine to just make a bulleted list of what's being talked about. Or if your videos are scripted to just post the script. That makes things better ^__^ and doesn't leave us out.
