Useful Links n' Info For New Steemit Users. Welcome To the New Users Who Joined Us From Facebook!

in steemit •  7 years ago

Since several Facebook users (some I knew and some I didn't) have told me that they have joined Steemit after seeing my posts there - I thought I'd take an opportunity to Welcome you and point you to some useful places here...

welcome

Steemit is a website that runs from a blockchain called Steem. This means that Steemit is integrated into a system that, like Bitcoin, allows financial transactions and wallets - plus has no central webserver technology, which means that your posts won't be censored or controlled by a corporation.

There are numerous websites now that also run on the Steem blockchain and while it's exciting to see all the different branches of the Steem Eco-System, it's quite different to what you might have been seeing on Facebook and elsewhere. Actually it's 1000s of times better, but at the moment it might be a big overwhelming for new users here.

Here are a few videos, links and tips that you might find useful as you orient to your new community!

The Steemit Bluepaper is a quick way to learn about Steemit.

Steemit Videos

The annual Steemfest took place in Lisbon recently and you can watch many hours of video presentations on a wide variety of subjects if you want to learn more about Steem and where Steemit is going.

Here are a few videos from the first couple of days

And here's my detailed breakdown of the first day's presentations.

Practical Steemit Tips

If you want to create multiple accounts for Steemit from the same computer (actually the same IP address) then you will encounter some problems. Thankfully, there are ways to create as many accounts as you need without using a phone and bypassing the 'I account per IP address' limit. The details for this are in my post here.

You earn cryptocurrency by posting on Steemit and it helps if you can see the price of the Steem in realtime from your browser. This handy addon for browsers does that.

You get paid for posts after 7 days from publishing them and you can then use your Steem and Steem Backed Dollars in a variety of ways. If you want to convert them into fiat currency (US Dollars, Euros, Pounds etc.) then this guide explains a cheap way to do it.

Steemit automatically backs up your posts as you make new ones, so you shouldn't lose your work. However, in case you find that for some reason you are sometimes losing your text in your browser, I suggest using a markdown text editor and then pasting your work into Steemit when it's finished.

Other Steem Services

Steem now has it's own Youtube like site, called @dtube and you can find it here.

There's also a Soundcloud like site called @dsound - you can read about it here.

Another exciting site is Utopian.io which allows you to get paid for participating in open source software projects on Github! Awesome!
