Steem School EP 11 - How to Maximize the Value of Resteems!

Resteems are not used properly on Steem and most people ignore them (which reduces its value).

The reason for that is that most people either 1. Resteem 5 posts per day and more and spam the feed of their followers with unrelated posts (because they are friends with the author).

Or 2. They don't resteem at all and when they start resteeming it is unrelated posts as well.

That already gives you a clue on how to give your resteems more value.

Steemit's resteem function needs to be improved or reworked because as I see it most people ignore it or misuse it because they are not worth much anyway (in the way that everyone uses it).

Resteems just drown in the Steem feed because people follower over 10 people (who also resteem) and boom they don't value the posts appearing on their feed anymore because they are not related to their niche or they are not interested in it.

So here are all the ways to give the resteems that you receive and share more value.

How to Increase the Value of Resteems

1. Follow 10 people only. By following 10 people only your feed will stay clean and their resteems will be related to what you are interested in (hopefully) which increases the value of the resteems that you see and resteem yourself.

2. Only resteem 1 post per day. You do not want to spam the feed of the people that follow you.

3. The last easy thing to do to give your resteems more value is to resteem a post per day your followers are interested in aka it must be related to what you are writing about.

Conclusion: Follow 10 people only to keep your Feed clean. Resteem 1 related post per day and like that you are not spamming your followers feed with multiple unrelated resteems per day.

If everyone would do that resteems would be valued more but I know that most won't do it.

It is up to Steemit to improve or rework the resteem function.

They should add a "Resteem" tab to your blog profile so that you can see all blog resteems at once without other posts.

I only resteem posts that I think contain useful information for every user in general, or brings to light an issue that needs attention from a wider audience. I haven't found much in the way of posts from folks that do the same thing I do and that has kept me from resteeming a lot. Like you, I'm infinitely annoyed by people that resteem 10 times per day; I unfollow them without mercy. I've also decided to curb the amount of people that I follow; I simply can't keep track of more than 100 people, if that. Great insights as usual. Greetings!

Good comment as usual Onno.

Up with you!

They should add a "Resteem" tab to your blog profile so that you can see all blog resteems at once without other posts.

This I agree with very much!!! Now if only someone sees's that it and implements it!

It took me a while to get the hang of resteems, but once I did, I've only resteemed posts that I actually value, and feel that my followers will value as well.

So far that amounts to once daily or less. I'm all for supporting the authors I like, but have no desire to spam, and dislike it when I am spammed . . . which is why I've pretty much deep-sixed Facebook and the rest of social media in favor of Steemit

That said, I think you're the only author to date that I've resteemed more than once. But, since you are posting specifically on how best to succeed with Steemit, I can't imagine anyone on the platform not being interested.

I must agree with @bethwheatcraft, however, that for me, following only ten people would create too much of an echo chamber, as I have extremely wide-ranging interests. I also like reading the opinions of those with whom I disagree, in addition to those with whom I agree, as I learn far more about the issues in that way.

But, like resteeming, I've only followed those whose content I actually value, so I look forward to their posts, and thus far I have never felt the need to unfollow anyone.

In the roughly fourteen weeks I've been on the platform, I've followed just over thirty people, which is a good number for me. I might get up to fifty over time, but doubtful more than that, and I'm getting more and more picky about following.

Good comment Cop.

I also only keep 10 followers because I am all about building strong relationships and not superficial connections.

Talking about an echo-chamber doesn't make sense, you can just open the Steem feed and get ouf of that "echo-chamber".

I've yet to resteem a post (I'm still a noob here) so please could you explain why people over/spam resteem? What's the motivation? Do the resteemers get the benefit of the upvotes on the posts they've resteemed?

Many people think, that spamming resteems no matter of which quality they are, will increase their revenues, which is wrong. Obviously...

100%

Yep and I also agree with you that this can become dangerous, so a fee for resteeming would be a really great way to deal with that. Only resteem if you think that you can earn the paid fee from the resteem plus some extra money. This would be an important step to keep the balance and prevent people from spamming.

Yes, it would increase the worth of resteems a lot.

It is a good tool to strengthen relationships with people here on Steem because you share their posts with your audience, however, if you overdo it they lose value like described in my post.

I get it, thanks for your reply.

Another very useful advice, except I have been following too many people since I started steeming - more than 400 by now. I guess if I want to heed your advice I need to unfollow a lot of them. Which give me a very complicated feeling since I will feel guilty doing so. Guess I will try filtering them now and see who I really want to follow. Thanks for great article. A pleasant day to you.

No reason to feel guilty, you probably haven't even met 1 of them in real life.

That's true. I'm starting to filter them now buy since there are a lot of them this is probably gonna take awhile. I'm looking forward to your next article. Thank again.

Install the app Steemit more info to unfollow them faster.

great idea. it is very annoying with all the resteems. i only resteem what is actually interesting to me. like this post lol. hope people listen

Thank you Dave.

I do think people abuse resteems, and I have had to unfollow quite a few people for this, but I think following only 10 people is far too few. I find that I can more than keep up with the 50 or so people I follow as long as they are keeping their resteems in check!

I prefer to build strong relationships with around 10 people, that is a good and solid number which requires a lot of effort but which is doable.

Different strokes for different folks. I just find myself in too much of an echo chamber without more people to follow, but I can see where your relationships would be closer with said users if you only had 10.

I think there should also be some sort of curation reward added to resteems. That way people would learn how to use them properly because there would be a reward attached to proper resteeming.

Another good suggestion to improve Resteems, someone with connections should get all those arguments to Ned or build an APP.

aka it must be related to what you are writing about.

What if i write about a lot of stuff, i still don't know what my niche is, i like everything...
I usually dont resteem, but if i do is usualy posts i upvote and that i find the content worth reading

Then resteem 1 post per day that is of very high quality or don't resteem at all.

Ok, makes sense, thank you for the tip, you got a new follower right here :D

A really needed guide, so many people are spamming resteems without even thinking about what they are resteeming, just because they think they can earn more steem dollars in this way. Completly wrong, thanks for pointing this out finally. I have been aware of this problem since I started on DTube :)

Thanks for increasing my knowledge of the resteem button. Hope to work on that area.

I had a feeling this was true so that's why I didn't go crazy following people. Thanks.

good information

Good one!
It is true what you said. I followed a guy who resteem 4-5 posts a day

Very boring 😅

Nice stuff right there !!!

Good tips,

The most I’ve ever shared in one day is 2 resteem but I’ve seen people flood pages with tons of resteems. Like you said, even 2 feels like a lot to me. Sticking to one a day max makes sense. Keep the videos rolling in !

Hope you’re having a good day bro , take care.

You're totally right. I tried using hot topic earlier this week thinking that I'd get exposure from them resteeming my content but I didn't even get my 1 sbd investment recouped. I was much better off going with bots.

very informative, will try these tips

Thanks for your valuable information. I am quite new here and am not been to able to follow the processes, many things are yet to learn. Your post have helped me somehow.

so wonderful post, good work, thanks for sharing

It costs 1 sbd ,
Thanks for your post bro ;)

Resteems should cost 1SBD to increase the value of it and to make people think twice before they resteem something (it better be a good post to resteem!).

But then people should get some kind of reward. Nobody would resteem things if they loose money doing it. Maybe getting a small reward every time someone opens the resteemed post and upvotes it or something like that. Else it is not worth it, because you will just loose money

No, you gain money if the person whos post you resteems strengthens the relationship between him and you.

That is why you must think carefully which post you resteem which further increases the quality of resteems.

I wonder if they count towards the 10 posts after which your payout will decrease, it should!

Thanks for this post sir but do well to educate us (beginners) more
