My Steemit Story - What's yours?

in steemit •  6 years ago

I just read @slobberchops post about "My Steemit story" inspired by a topic started by @whatsup about your story so far with steemit. Besides the nice reading of @slobberchops his post I thought it would be nice to also write down my story so far, and I would love to read yours.

If you want to write down yours use the #mysteemitstory tag and tell us about:

  • How do you find out about STEEM and Steemit?
  • What were your initial experiences and thoughts?

Like many others I got intrigued by Crypto currency when a lot of coins got to a extreme high and when the sky seems to be the limit for Bitcoin. At that point a hadn't have a clue of the terms "Fear of Missing Out", "To the moon" and "HODL", the only thing I saw and understood was "Lambo", not that I thought it would bring me a lambo, but I sure know the car-brand :).

I really didn't know a thing about crypto and start reading a bit online. By reading a lot of blogs, newsarticles and stuff I noticed that there are a lot of 'so called' experts. Promising you big profits on little investments and so on, to good to be true in my honest opinion.

You know what they say about the Dutch, they are the stingy kind. So when I read about mining I was all ears. How great would that be, mining coins and get a reward for it just by using your laptop. So I started with mining some alt-coins. (Myriad , Electroneum, bytecoin)... Before I knew it all laptops in the house were scheduled to mine. My kids were complaining about me using their laptops hahaha....

After some weeks I noticed that a simple mining at home wasn't creating any coins with value, so I quit doin g that.

I do have quite some Myriad at this point, but like all other coins, they have fallen tremendously, so HODL :P.

At this point I didn't heard about Steemit so far but I still was interested in crypto, so I read some articles and decided to buy me some XRP (Ripple) because everyone said it would go up big time.... Stupid me, it didn't go up but massive down (like a lot of crypto's) so I got in at the wrong time.... I still have them because it isn't worth a fraction of what I paid for it (yeppp...stupid me).

While playing a bit with different coins I also learned that not every exchange has the same coins. So in a blink I had different accounts on multiple exchanges and I learned that the fees are sometimes way to much. At one point I had to pay so much fee that my (port of) bitcoin wasn't usable anymore because I was under a certain amount :)

I ran into steemit by accident. I was googling about crypto and came along a link to Steemit. I read some posts, still not knowing what it was exactly, but when I found out you get rewarded in crypto (steem) by blogging I thought it was to good to be true but instantly created a account. It took a while before I could use my account but when I did I started writing.

This all started in January of this year.

In the beginning I was overwhelmed by the rewards on the trending page and rewards for the early adaptors. I think I saw some $$ to much :). I started writing about almost anything but soon discovered that getting a following and rewards wasn't as easy as it might looked at the other accounts.

There were a lot of accounts (starters) like me and a lot of posts a day, so I wasn't noticed very much and (just like @slobberchops) got a lot of posts without any reward.. But I kept believing because I really thought the platform and its vision were great. I still was looking a bit on what to write or posts, because I am interested in a lot but perhaps it was better to stick to on type of writing, I just didn't know.

My passion lies within music, so obvious I write (and have written) a lot about music. And with me there are a lot of great persons on Steemit that share the same passion.

just to name a few.

Some great folks too, not particular music , with which I interact a lot:

But without doing anyone short, there are so many great people on Steemit that, for me, the crypto rewarding is fun but no motivation anymore... Sure it is fun get a big reward on a post, but better a great comment :) And I truley mean that.

So to this day on I am using Steemit with a great pleasure, so I will continue to do so !! Not knowing what the future brings, but we'll see...

What's your story?

Have a great day !!

Peter

hahaha I truely did miss it as well as Davorcoin :)))

Awesome story and thanks for sharing. I feel like a lot of us had a similar starting experience on Steemit. I will have to post about my experience in a couple of days!

Yes, I think the start is quiet the same for all of us. Looking forward to your story :)

It's a pleasure to have you on this platform. Always nice to interact and read your posts.

Thank you @s3rg3 !! Likewise !!

We started out here on the steemisfere at the same time and while i was reading i stumbled upon a safety blog from you about the keys. Thats the one i used for a very long time and we became friends. Dutchies amongst eachother Always a blast. now i am looking forward to meeting up real time, nd my story is up when i am here 365 days so stay tuned.

Yes I have seen the mentions on all of your welcome posts to new steemians :) Must apreciated :)
I am staying tuned for your story in January, but first we all meet up in november in Rotterdam... Can't wait !!!

Maybe I should Change the welcome blog but I know that newbies tend to go and follow the steemians that are adviced so maybe it helped a bit too..... I Will See 😉 YES on to meetup

Nice story and I am glad you are here! Keep hanging in there.

Thank you very much, and I hang on... No doubt, having to much fun overhere with all nice people :)

I thought and researched long and hard about mining - i was going to try on my laptop and what i read said that it could overheat and blow up. The other option to invest in a rig cost to much! Thats when i started looking for alternatives and came across Steem and havent looked back ☺

Great idea il have to do a write up of my own!

looking forward to it !!!

Awestory amigo and its nice to see the road to where you are now...including all pitfalls which feel sooooooo recognizable :D
