5 Reasons to Learn HTML/Markdown for Steemit

in steemit •  7 years ago
  1. Add Pictures Directly -HTML/Markdown allows you to add pictures directly from your computer instead of looking for a link. This can be helpful, however if there is problem you can always just use imgur to get the html code to add any picture to a post.
  2. More Versatile-HTML/Markdown is able to be used in other blogging sites. In addition it is what websites are coded in. Although a lot features are not active in Steemit, there is just so much more freedom when you write it yourself. I often see post that could be 10 times better with proper HTML tags such as <center></center>. It just makes such a big difference, especially to me since I like things to be symmetrical.
  3. Fix problems-I learned this the hard way, but if you cycle between Raw html and Editor a lot can go wrong, especially if there is pictures. Understanding how HTML works can help you solve the issues without having to rewrite the entire post.
  4. Resume- Maybe a small point but getting in the habit of using HTML daily when writing posts can help you understand basic HTML at the website level. This can be added to your resume to look a bit more impressive although they might ask if you understand css. At that point you are already at the door so you are on your own.
  5. Faster- I have found that using html has actually increased my speed. For two reasons, you can have templates, and you can work in multiple html posts at once.
  6. PLEASE USE CENTER!!!!

Learning HTML is always a useful skill

absolutely true! two thumbs up!

Thank you! Also use

lol

wow when you write center the way you would in html is does not appear, you learn something new every day.

The sources for your images are not valid. You can't just get images off pinterest which is basically the same as using google or source images from other blogs which have sourced their images from elsewhere.

You have to click on them and they will show the source. Even once in the blogs it is hard to determine where they came from (like you mentioned). Where do you suggest to get images from that can be properly sourced? It seems like a tedious task for 2 pennies lol

Having to go down the rabbit hole of sources to get to the original source is not something that should have to happen.

Also do you know the copyright of the butterfly image? Do you have rights to distribute that image and host it on your article? Do you even know the original photographer? It's highly likely that the blog is plagiarising that image itself. Or they were responsible blog authors and purchased the rights to use the image.

But just because the blog is using it, that does not mean you can use it.

I suggest in the future you source your images that are free of copyrights under Creative Commons CC0. There are websited that catalogue these, however I have found copyrighted images on these "royalty free" websites.

I've just done a search on Flickr.com for images that are allowed to be modified and commercial use. You however must attribute the original author.
