How steemit earns money?

I heard about steemit recently. I was a content writer long back.There was a website called bubblews. We had awesome friends there and I used to write good articles there,but the spammers and bots made the company go bankrupt . The same thing I am seeing here also.
Coming to my question,steemit also has the same concept except that it runs on block chain. I want to know how steemit is able to reward it's users and how they are monetising our content. Can anybody help me to understand the concept of steemit?

Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

  • Disagreement on rewards
  • Fraud or plagiarism
  • Hate speech or trolling
  • Miscategorized content or spam
