Timing issues with steemit

in steemit •  7 years ago

Now hopefully when I hit post on this thing it doesn't prove me wrong but I've noticed that the time since posting at least through steemit seems to be based on when you first click submit a story and it opens the form.

Seems that you could use this to make all of your posts not show up until they were already thirty minutes old. I am not sure if that is actually possible and even if it is if anyone could gain any benefit from it but as a former software tester I always think about trying ways to break things and this one intrigues me.

What was the outcome?

Thanks for asking. I didn't want to reply to my own post. It was five minutes old the second I posted it.

Wow, enough to impact chances of being seen. Looks like I will edit in notpad from now on and only press submit story when ready to post :)

Just tried and I think it is timed to when you press post (Not on edits though).

Was doing a post and forgot about this. It appears as "now" when I posted it

Not sure then because I have definitely had posts say 5 or 10 minutes ago as soon as I post. Now that I think about it though I suppose if it were to submit your post to the blockchain but then just adds it to the page immediately then when you refresh it would give you the right time because the post you are seeing has a created field that didn't come from the blockchain but I can't really say for sure unless I look through the code.
