What is a witness?
Witness are the keeper, admin, seeder, blocks finder, node runner, price feeds setter, interest setter, and etc. of the Steem blockchain. Without any of them, there are no one who are going to manage everything about the blockchain, no more transactions can be made within this Steemit community, everything will going to be frozen, until the platform collapse and becomes useless. It only means that we need to choose and vote for our prepared witnesses.
Who can become a witness?
Each user has a privilege to select and vote for up to 30 witnesses, the count of each vote will vary in accordance with the voter's current Steem Power, a user with 1000 Steem Power has a 1000 times votes greater than a user who have only 1 Steem Power. It means that each and every vote really counts.
How to vote a witness?
Go to https://steemit.com/~witnesses, then enter your chosen witness account name or you can choose and vote from the top 50 on the list, just click the upvote button. If your prepared witness is not on the top 50 list and you really wanted to support him, just go to the link above, then type in the account name and click vote.
For example, I want to vote @steemgigs as my witness, I just need to type in steemgigs in the first search box then click the vote button.
If you want to give all of your privilege from voting a 30 witness, and you want to honor it into a specific person, just type in his account name in the 2nd search box then click vote.

To give him your witness voting decision, visit https://steemit.com/~witnesses and type in "surpassinggoogle" in the second box as a proxy.

Now, i get it. Witnesses are really important then. I actually voted for steemgigs already and @surpassinggoogle as proxy. Do we have to vote for them everyday though?
