Steemit Is Like A Middle School Dance

Remember the days when you went to a middle school dance? In some ways, Steemit and a middle school dance have a lot in common.

Pulling up and having your mom drop you off alone outside the school gymnasium was rough. Walking in the dance alone and awkward looking around for someone you know.

Now remember your first day on Steemit. Wondering around and trying to figure out how everything worked. You would leave awkward comments asking questions, clearly standing out as a fresh fish with the 25 rating. Searching around, looking for someone to grab ahold of and learn how this all works.

Back at the middle school dance, there were always three types of people.

1. The Wallflowers - the ones that would be alone or in very small groups just watching people from the wall.

2. The Pack - a large group of guys or girls where one would occasionally break off to dance with the watchful eye of pack pointing and laughing.

3. The Dancers - these were the kids that just didn't care and loved dancing to the music. They were there to have fun and they didn't care if they looked funny, they were enjoying themselves.

Here on Steemit, the Wallflowers are the ones that don't really engage too much, and just watch. Many just waiting for the right time to get out and blog more often and dance a little.

Then there are the packs. These are groups of Steemonians that support themselves in groups and help each other succeed. They all don't mind dancing together and compete in weekly challenge. They don't point and laugh, but encourage new people as well.

Then there are the dancers, the ones that post and engage all the time and seem to genuinely interacting on Steemit. It doesn't matter what kind of person you all, the school dances could be fun. Either hanging with your friends and laughing at teachers trying to dance or shaking your butt all night on the dance floor.

The middle school dance wasn't just about dancing, it was a place where kids could come out of their shell a little. Be on their own, with hormones and questions and dim lights with the other sex all dressed up. The dances were places that people were fun an uncomfortable. Asking a girl to dance back then was stomach turning for me, but it was fun and felt right. Being uncomfortably honest in some of my blogs is stomach turning, but it feels right.

Steemit is a place where we can step out of our comfort zone and develop our own style. In that respect, it is a lot like a middle school dance.

Now to leave you, and epic song from my middle school days.

The hero we don't deserve

The songs played at my middle school dances were Hey Jude and To Sir With Love! 😯 Good analogy!

AWESOME SONGS! Thanks for the reply. You got a new follower.

Don't be a wallflower on Steemit. You never get the girl by being shy and you won't do well here. Quiet people are often awesome people it's just too bad more people don't know it because they don't talk

Great metaphor! I guess the witnesses are the DJ's then 🙃

I totally agree.

... Trying to impress the popular kids...
... Wanting to approach someone (or a group) that you don't know and feeling stupid (posts in different languages)...
... Trying to look cool and like you belong with the cool kids...

I'd definitely go with that analogy

OMG. I have not heard that song in years. How does that not get more radio play?
