Why Your Steemit Post Value Changes Even When Your Vote Doesn't

in steemit •  7 years ago

What, I had a 10 dollar post yesterday which is now worth 9. Then tomorrow you will see the post go up to $12. And the whole time your voting count stays at 25. If you are new here you might be wondering what is going on. What is this magic? It is just the value of steem going up and down as the market changes. Remember you are not getting paid in cash but steem, which is a currency like bitcoin, that has a financial equivalent depending on what the market says. Right now 1 steem is worth $1.77 USD, so it is worth more than money from a lot of countries. Tomorrow it will change. Maybe it will go up, maybe it will go down.

You have to also keep in mind that the value of your post is based on a seven day rolling average. It is not a live exchange so it going up or down based on the average. So, I think, as days with high and lows pass out of the seven day range, it can have a drastic effect on the amount. Just think of it like a stock that goes up and down.

Now if the price goes down and you lose a lot of 'value' on your post, you are still getting the same amount of steem. So
if you hold it is can go back up, or, can go even higher. I, personally, think the coin will see $5 plus by the end of the year and I am in now hurry to sell them. But they are your coins, do what you think is best with it.

Just know those dollar values are based on the market so they will fluctuate constantly.

Here is the site I use to check prices:

It would have been nice if I sold at $8 and bought back now lol Oh well maybe next time!

It would be nice find i got real followers instead of bots lol

It's an attack of the bots these days! Lol I should make a bot that destroys other bots

lol same but don't feel bad, you never know. Then you sell it at 2 and it goes to 4 :p.

It's a big currency I expect her to have more than $ 40 in this year Do not rush to tell you that her big future is that she's excited she's the best

I think a $100 but I might be over optimistic.

The steem price tracks the bitcoin price. And bitcoin is below $7000 again sadly.

Remember when steem was .09 cents!?!? It wasn't all that long ago. less than 2 years. What if it goes back to under a dime? My guess is that there will probably be some unhappy whales when that drop happens...

Thank you @whatageek this is a very information post.

This is what I like about steem no matter how much the value of steem changes but the no. Of steem you get is the same it is just the conversion that changes, so if the value increases tomorrow, yayyy it is a win-win situation..

I agree. It's definitely a WIN-WIN situation!

Definitely, it is, this steem blockchain has been build with much more things we even know, the developers have worked hard very hard to make this possible, have you ever imagined you go post something or comment and get paid for that, I have been using FB and Instagram for years and then what they never gave us anything in return they showed us adds and now even the FB that has been hacked by Zukerburg himself ...really fuck that I ain't gonna use that ever again .i prefer staying with steem. You get honoured here.

Upvote

Exactly and it can really pay off later.

thanks.... very useful the information, now I understand the fluctuation of the value of the post.

No problem :)

That is really helping, there are so many questions arising in the minnows head, but they don't get to know what actually happens, this can help even I can to know this thing about a week ago...thanks highly appreciated.

Very good post. It makes perfect sense now, I have been trying to figure out why my post value was going up and down without getting more votes.

jaja ese gato feo

I am new on steemit, thanks for this information.

I believe the value of rewards for each post changes depending on a lot of factors. One of them is the number of total votes currently which is quite hard to calculate because it changes every now and then. Either way, it's better to just secure having high steem power so that every vote can be maximized.

Thanks @whatageek for this information. I have actually been wondring the same.

The last three days have actually seen my post values go an down. Initially i though it was being downvoted.

And you see, they are my 'first rewards' here, and the 'big ones' especially keep me awake much of the time!!!

So seeing them rise, and then drop really got me worried. So each time they'd drop or rise, i 'd run to steemd.com to check through my account activity, then boom! Nothing. No downvotes, and no upvotes, despite the changing post reward value.

It left me confused. But now that you explain it this way, it all makes sense.

The market has been crazy the last couple of days so you will see a pretty substantial change.

True. Thanks.

I had assumed this was the case, thank you for confirming.

A good post. Still being somewhat new to the platform it was very informative.

This explains why my account value has been fluctuating too. On a side note, love the geeky awesomeness. Who doesn't appreciate info on how steemit works with a dose of gaming and sci-fi goodness. Thanks!

Thank you :)

So TL;DR is: exchange rates vary.

ya.

Tulisannya menarik ini dan telah kami follow yaa.. :-)

Thanks @whatageek, very useful information, i guess i have to be patient now...lol

I understand the value of the post.thanks for your valuable information for us.
Heartly thanks

A very nice post for new steemers like me. It's really helpfull thanks a lot.

Great opinion! This are good times to be active as you can get these cryptos at low prices while the platoon is still in development and growth steps. As adoption increases for both the platform and blockchain technology, the opportunities are great for content creatora and curators.

I lake information :w

Thank you so much for shairing helpful information.

Thank you @whatageek for this simple explanation on this. As a beginner I find this information helpful. Thanks

Thanks for the information about STEEM and how the 'credit' system here works. I'm relatively new here and have been wondering if the value of a post fluctuates due to the value of STEEM itself. Very helpful! -Respect

OMG I just was wondering it about yesterday

thanks for clearing things up for me :)

no probelm

Great clarification! These are good times to be active as you can get these cryptos at low prices while the platoon is still in development and growth stages. As adoption increases for both the platform and blockchain technology, the opportunities are very good for content creatora and curators.

Yeah if it gets high this can be a good time to get your steem.

Thank you for explaining why the post value changes from hour to hour. Cryptocurrency is more volatile than fiat money (Dollars, EUROS). One reason advanced is that the news media scares cryptocurrency holders with negative stories. Read about other possible reasons:https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@bobmatou/steemit-post-value-changes-5-reasons-why-cryptos-are-more-volatile-than-dollars

Selain itu, ada cara lain untuk memastikannya,,

I follow all your. Post.

Pls follow and upvote me. Thank you

Thanks for your post this was very useful. I did wonder why the price kept going down

Thanks for the great news and interesting read. Have a good day and good luck.

Hi there and thanks for your post dude !

You have a very optimistic vision of what could be worth the Steem coin at the end of the year, and I am too ! However, market fluctuates and sometimes storms happen. In that case, FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt) is extremely powerful and people tend to sell their coins ASAP.

The opposite is also true : I was burned when I first started trading, when I would hear vast numbers of people in a group for a coin saying “This coin is going to $1 USD!” When you see enough people yelling it, it reinforces it in your mind and you start to believe it. And at this point, FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) starts to kick in, and people tend to invest in that money.

You said it, the market fluctuates and your money can increase or decrease.
If you missed a rocket, you can still catch another one ;)
I'm just saying that overall, holding through storms isn’t a bad option.

We all made mistakes when we started but you learn. And yeah there is always another opportunity.

Good news for now .. because the value is going up .. but the upvote remains .. I just memyadarinya this morning. Moments after I wake up.

Steem's price (as maintained via price feed by witnesses) is just one of the factors upon which our rewards and vote value depend. Remaining balance in the reward pool also plays a role. If it increases due to flagging (rewards going back), our rewards may see a little jump. If other authors take too much rewards in one week, our rewards get affected as well.

It's a complex thing but yours is a nice effort.
