Now that I used chainBB I am getting a better idea of how apps built on the steem blockchain work and how the content from there gets posted on the feed here. Hopefully we will start to see more and more filtration soon as the feed is going to get jam packed with content. I suggested for chainBB, if steemit approves, that the posts get a symbol, like a chain so you can tell where it was from but that will only be a start. We will need tabs and maybe ways, at the choice of the user, to have some posts show higher than others. If this can be done, then all the chainbb posts can go to a tab as well as their site. So what happens if we do the same thing with a dating app that posts your profile on the feed?
Here is how it would work. You get an app where people post their profiles. They would make them like they do a post and that would get posted to the dating app and the steemit feed. This means that anyone could view them and even comment on them. We would need a tab so people can go through them on steemit differently than the other posts. And the app would need a search feature that helps you find profiles based on distance or hobbies or some criteria. This criteria would have to get linked to the posts itself so it would probably be on the steemit profile post as well. Messaging would have to be done off the blockchain, people should have a degree of privacy for their messaging. And as you get upvotes on your profile dating post, you would get paid. In order for this to work, the dating post would have to have a renewing 7 day payout, either with an algorithm change or a bot that reposts the post every 7 days. This would lead to a dating app where people can get paid to use it.
The benefits are people would probably be more honest and nicer on their dates, as people can comment on their post and upvote them. The downside is it would be less private, your dating post would be on the feed and everyone can see it and comment. And eventually, as this site goes big, people will make some inappropriate comments.
The question is, if you are single, would you use it?

At first I thought that this would be a great idea, but on reflection I am not really sure. I can see that this kind of app could get very open to abuse and spam... Not to even mention the fake profiles that I am sure would pop up very quickly.

It would be almost too easy, use anonSteem to create a profile, then get a nice picture (you can see a good example). Write a profile, and watch the upvotes roll in.
Maybe we should get some sort of identity structure built around Steem first....

I agree with @nenad-ristic
Also I've been a user on several dating apps and after all those experiences I really don't think that using the steemit blockchain will be good for this

I wouldn't use one, but I'm sure a lot of other people would. Look at how popular Tinder is. And I'm certainly no fan of it...but a lot of people love it. I'm sure it would be just as popular if you could get paid for posting on it.
Find an easy hook-up and get paid? No more need for old-school prostitution! You can even call it "SteemHooker," or something like that...maybe "SteemDating" would be more appropriate. Although, "SteemySluts" sounds good too!

Well you took that in a different direction :p. Here I was thinking innocently. But that could be an actual problem, especially if the steem coin gets high in value, it might create a market for sex. Cryptocurrency has enough of an image problem as it is.

Oh, well...I was just poking some fun at it, but anything is possible. I thought it was funny to put the idea of finding a "date" (which is really just trying to find a "hook up") and getting paid for doing it. So...paid hook-ups, which is not that different from getting paid for hook-ing.
Same concept. Slightly different style. All up to the individuals though. Who am I to judge? And if it brings us higher STEEM prices, I'm all for it!

Like there isn't a market for sex? It would be clearly obvious that receiving paid upvotes prevents financial need, and therefore reduces incentive to undertake prostitution.

I'd try it in a heartbeat for laughs.
Hey @whatageek what's the easiest way to reach you. Steemit chat or discord? I still owe you a shirt.

I wouldn't use it but I don't do online dating. But that certainly doesn't mean others wouldn't use it. I actually think it's a great idea!

I like the idea of such an app, but I'm almost certain the reality would quickly become unusable and would degrade the community as a whole.

When I heard about Matchpool making a Blockchain dating app, I cringed. Can you imagine all of your personal pictures, swipes, messages etc. being recorded forever on a public blockchain.
Sure, you take some of the details off of the Blockchain, but at a certain point you have to ask yourself what point is the Blockchain serving?!

I gave up on internet dating 10 years ago (in fact, ALL forms of dating !! HA) but it's a nice thought - I may reconsider if the girl whose photo is above says she's single haha Rock On / STEEM On !

I think it would be a good idea. Users can self validate if they are talking to a real person or not. They can ask for more photos and read all the posts on their profile.
I think privacy would be a big issue.
