Hands down one of the best movies I've seen in the last decade. Eye dazzling, graphic, and incredibly attention grabbing. Northman will keep you on the edge of your seat and bring you through an emotional roller coaster as you follow the life of a prince robbed of his thrown who turns half neanderthal and half savage viking warrior on a mission of vengeance taking place in 800AD Iceland.
The movie has many unexpected twists and turns to the very end, all while capturing a culture shockingly realistic way of life before electricity, before guns, before many things. A time of small populations, a time of slaves, a time of kings and queens, and a time of complete brutality. It was a time where honor and ensuring your DNA got passed down came above your own life and pursuit of happiness.
The realness and serious drama is reminiscent of the classic Dances with Wolves with 2022 filming quality, graphics, and a faster pace. Some scenes reminded me of a first person video game, but on another real life level. The main actor looks like a jacked up neanderthal and basically plays one too. Very good acting and this will surely be a movie you don't forget.
Furthermore, I read a review about this movie siting that it's very popular because there is no "woke" propaganda in the film. There is no brokeback mountain surprise two dudes kissing scene. There is no Russia is the enemy. There is no, someone wearing a face mask out of the blue; or here is the Asian guy, and here is the Latino, and here is the black guy.....in 800AD Iceland just to be inclusive. No product placement. Zero, none of that; I'm almost surprised how the movie got made and funded in this day and age.
This movie delivers in a way reminiscent of movies 25 years ago in terms of a no-nonsense serious action drama; but with all the eye dazzling quality of you'd expect from something made this day and age. The way the times and life of 800AD Iceland is captured is almost shocking in it's own right. It really is a time where human lands somewhere between savage animal and modern man, and this plays out over and over throughout the length of the movie.
Have you seen Northman yet? What do you think of my review? Note there is plenty of graphic violence and it's rated R. Here is the trailer below. Thanks for taking the time and have a great day! From Beautiful Thailand - Dan "World Travel Pro"
