This is a project that I am doing for school. I am interested in examining how race and ethnicity affects people’s lives. I am interested in learning about your experience as an African-American woman, Hispanic woman/man, Muslim woman/man,Jewish woman/man
In my social work program we are learning about the experiences of people from different ethnic/racial backgrounds and I would like to learn from you what it has been like to grow up in America.
In my social work program we are learning about the experiences of people from different ethnic/racial backgrounds and I would like to learn from you what it has been like to grow up in America.
I now would like to talk about your experience:
Have you ever experienced discrimination?
Have you ever experienced any advantages?
What is your definition of racism?
Have you ever experienced racism?
Which periods of your life (childhood, adolescence, adulthood, older adulthood) were most stressful in terms of feeling discriminated against because of you race (ethnicity or religion?)
Did you have any periods of your life when you did NOT feel any stigma because your race (ethnicity/religion?)
What were you doing when you were confronted with issues of racism?
How did you react to this incident?
What did the incident make you think about – in terms of yourself and the larger society?
What did you do, if anything, after you had these thoughts?
Can you think of any other situation in the past six months in which you experienced racism?
If you raised children, did you do anything specific to help your children adapt to a racist society?
Is there anything else you can tell me about your understanding of racism and its effects on you and the person you are today?
Thank you in advance if you like this post and comment on it .
