Chief Anthony Enahoro played a vital role in bringing political independence to Nigeria. As one of the country's earliest prodemocracy activist, he moved the first motion for self-rule from Britain in 1953. Seven years later his dream of Nigerian independence became a reality. A politician, thinker, and mentor, Enahoro was also Nigeria's youngest editor ever. He gained his distinction in 1944 by becoming the Southern Nigerian Defender's editor at age 21.He later promoted the unity of his country during it's 1967 - 1970 civil war.

Chief Anthony Enahoro never hesitated to voice his opinion regarding Nigerian independence. In his 1953 motion toward this cause, he stated, "Self-governent is ... a subject on which it is of the first importance that people should believe rightly." Because Enahoro was not afraid to speak out, his country eventually gained its freedom.
