Blog 17: Working with Humanitarian People(World Food Programme)

HEYA STEEMIANS!!! 

(A photo of mine when I was on the field helping farmers in guiding what they need to do. It makes me realized that giving back to your community is valuable in itself, but helping others also offers many benefits. It can help you learn more about yourself and even put you on a right path of your future)

I just want to share how grateful I am to work with these wonderful people whom I considered as my second family, these are the people who extended their helping hands in my hometown after “SUPERTYPHOON YOLANDA”.

I worked with United Nation “ World Food Programme” I was then an Administrative Assistant (Receptionist) on the camp, where it is like a “TENT HOTEL” It was built to help other Humanitarian to have a place to stay in because hotels in my hometown are all devastated. After I worked as a teacher in the morning, I am a receptionist in the afternoon until evening waiting for the guest to come (oh yes! I need to work hard because our house was totally washed by the super typhoon!). Those are guest came from the different Humanitarian group who helped in able to have a fast recovery caused by Super Typhoon, those people came from a different humanitarian group from UNHCR, UNDP, CORDAID, UNICEF, OCHA, and much more from UN, and NGO’s. And I salute them because they really have a huge contribution why my hometown now retorts on its hoary beauty, Oh! wait it is more beautiful than before! Hehe ..(But I am not giving credits to the super typhoon!)

( The Camp where different humanitarian stayed in one night or more!)

“The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. On average, WFP aims to bring food assistance to more than 80 million people in 75 countries. As the United Nations frontline agency in the fight against hunger, WFP is continually responding to emergencies. They save lives by getting food to the hungry fast. But WFP also works to help prevent hunger in the future. They do this through programmes that use food as a means to build assets, spread knowledge and nurture stronger, more dynamic communities. This helps communities become more food secure. WFP has developed expertise in a range of areas including Food Security Analysis, Nutrition, Food Procurement and Logistics to ensure the best solutions for the world's hungry.”

Working with these people I have learned a lot of things, in life, work, love, life, and I even received a lot of encouragement, pieces of advice and wisdom, for me to see the sunnier side of world and not to relinquish with life after suffering the toughest moment of my life and the people who have been affected by the typhoon. I’ve worked with different people, culture, belief, tradition, and nationality, that’s became an eye-opening to me realizing that no matter how dissimilar we are by color, height, and even language when other country needs a humanitarian all of those things don’t matter at all, and I was so pleased giving the opportunity working with dedicated people that shows willingness to help especially people who are need.

(People behind the Camp!)

What I really like most with these people they are so sweet, jolly, and nice. Whenever they saw me, they always say “hi, how are you? Have a good day” they are really appreciative of work, and inner beauty, which motivates me to do my work better though I have so many things to do and so pressure with the deadlines.
