🎨 Antoinette look/ watercolor work in few steps

in steemitartist β€’Β  6 years agoΒ  (edited)

Despite I am more Tom boy model since I was a child, but because of mine at first huge love for fairy tales and than later for SF, there was this other side of me, in love with romantic dresses and moments where women were beautiful in some more romantic way.
And from early childhood, there were two sides of drawings I made, sketching cartoon characters like some women warriors and other dressed in romantic outfits.

Recently that romantic moment woken up and than this Anoinettes started appearing in my watercolors.

First I made only sketch of a woman, but looking into that blank background something was missing. Tried out few of flowers patterns and that was it. More drawing :)

Same way previous ones were made, watercolors were applied on hair and dress with large amounts of water.
Afterwards when it dried, came work on skin and body parts.

IMG_3067.jpg

Now came question, how to make or what to do with that background. So, took out golden acrylic ink that allows to be covered with watercolor and goes out on the surface.
But, during applying of ink I changed my mind of adding watercolor over it.

In the end, when inking was done, it felt like adding more on background will only kill all the other good parts.
So I left it like this, and finally became satisfied with result.

Watercolor was made on Hahnemuhle Bamboo mixed media 300gr paper, one that became my favorite.
Cheep and very good for watercolors.

Thank you @janan :)

This is lovely! The gold pattern gives it a Klimt-like quality, but in your own style :-)

Absolutely gorgeous! I love the soft texture the wash gives the dress, against the crisp pattern of the background. The gold is perfect.

Thank you so much dear @offbeatbroad :)

with the patterns in the background looks like wallpaper!
I thought you were drawing a picture on the wall. wonderful details. congratulations

Yes, you are right @artizm, there used to be rolls with patterns for painting walls. Some of the old houses in north part of my country still have walls painted that way and it looks beautiful.

What a peaceful work. Painting with watercolor is an extremely relaxing exercise, I bet you enjoyed it a lot.
I'm a bit intrigued with the figure, I feel it's part of something bigger; a fragment of an unfinished work (maybe it's because his side pose and his downcast look, as if she were carrying something between his arms and we couldn't see it)
It would be interesting -at least for me-, to know if there is something or not, maybe in a future work you can leave us a clue ;)

No, my idea was like it's done, but maybe it could be done with more details. It's just way I do this kind of paintings. Thank you @nelsinho!

Hope you like this new lady :)

Of course I like that new lady!
Beautiful and very unique, that's how I could describe it Dunja!

Do you have a reference when you draw that beautiful and unique lady, or it just came to your mind because of your love for fairy tales?

Usually when I do portrait or figure I have to have some reference, just that proportions wouldn't slip . But it's usually just first step, afterwards a give my personal touch to the rest of the story @ronel. Thank you for your comment :)

You're very much welcome!
My pleasure!
And thanks for sharing your precious time replying to my comment.

But it's usually just first step, afterwards a give my personal touch to the rest of the story @ronel.

You're creative obviously. That's one of the characteristic of an artist.
Pretty cool!

Beautiful drawing in watercolors, I appreciate very much that you will explain the process to us. The colors that you selected look great in the drawing, I loved the final result, a big hug @jungwatercolor .. !!

Thank you @naideth :)

@jungwatercolor, I love the color of the hair and dress, it very soft and it represent a soft character of lady figure. The color you mixed for the hair and dress was terrific, you blended it well.It was very feminine and elegant lady. With your skill, i bet you completed it within 1-2 hours. I sometimes like shade by using color pencil. Now you gave me an idea on the mixture of color in my shading. But i am not an artist like you ;)

Well, my skill can't go over time I need to wait for color to become dry so that I can go with another layer. So, this one took few days. But somehow I don't pay attention so much on time for some work. I see it as something not so important for the out come. I am happy if my work moved you and gave you some ideas @oliviackl :)

Oh yes, I missed that part where you need to wait for color to dry so that can applied another layer of it. Because in color pencil, I do not require that :p

Yes, pencil is quick but watercolor really ask for patience, sort of meditating kind for me @oliviackl.

What a beautiful clothing and hair! I find her mystical. There is something about her expression that I can't describe with words!

Congratulations on the curie vote!! So very well deserved!

Thank you @delishtreats :)

This is absolutely beautiful in all regards. The wallpaper, the hair, the skin, the expression, the fabric - everything is perfect! I'm really happy you showed the progress pics. Thank you so much for the post :)

You are welcome @fitinfun, happy you found it interesting. I do try to post process of work when ever I can. I think it might be helpful to other artist entering in work with watercolors.

Hey @jungwatercolor, once again a wonderful watercolor painting, very gentle, almost like an angel, shy and beautiful. I love hte way how you apply your colors, they lay one other but still not mixed up, I believe you wait until one layer is completely dries up, that is sometimes a problem with me, because I am always inpatient to wait till paint is completely dry. The background done beautifully, I would say, the leaves look almost like made with golden color.

I like this new lady @jungwatercolor :) The colors are so soft and works beautifully together.

In the end, when inking was done, it felt like adding more on background will only kill all the other good parts.
