Hiring Artists for a Collaborative Art Project (work done at home)
© craigslist - Map data © OpenStreetMap
compensation: $25 / hour for 2 hours
We have a blind collaborative art project and are seeking artists interested in participating. The current project we have open is paying $25 an hour for 2 hours. We are interested in people that work in all mediums, but the projects we have at this moment are pen & ink, collage and painting. This will be working at a small scale (5x5 or smaller). They can all be done from your own home or studio. Even if these aren't your specialty, we are still interested, part of the collaboration is working outside of what you normally do.
How it works: The artists selected will get a detailed instruction packet that will also include most of the materials needed to complete the project in the 2 hour time frame (does not include paint and brushes, does include canvases, collage materials). Some of the work completed during this time may be used in the final art collaboration, which will be a larger print(s) incorporating many different artists' work. Prints will be sold to support the projects.
How to get selected: just respond to this posting if interested and let us know where we can see examples of your art. Also confirm you can complete the 2-hour project within one week of receiving the instruction packet. Please ask any questions you might have. Once approved we will give you the details of the three projects to see which one would be the best fit for you.

Hello Joanna,
Thank you so much for your interest in our upcoming art collaboration.
We reviewed the samples of work you sent and we would love to work with you if you are still available. You will find below a more detailed description of the projects we currently have. They all are still open at the moment so take a look and let us know which one you would like to be part of. Please pick only one for now.
Once you have made your choice, you can confirm your participation by letting us know which project you would like to participate in and sending us your mailing address.
What happens next?
We will be mailing you the detailed instructions packet with the included materials needed to complete the project you picked. You will then have 2 hours to complete one of these 3 projects and one week to mail back your art in the stamped envelope included in the instruction packet. Half will be paid upfront and half will be paid upon reception of the final piece of art.
What happens to your art?
We compensate you for creating original pieces of art where some of the work completed may be used in a final art collaboration. Prints will be sold to support the projects while your original art may be given away to art lovers. You still hold copyrights to your work while we hold the right to reproduce, sell or give away the art being created. All the art part of the collaboration is anonymous and your name won’t be associated with the final creation.
Let me know if you have any questions at all about the projects or the process.
Looking forward to hearing back from you,
Jane
Project “Birch Bark” Pen and Ink
For this project you will receive in the mail a bunch of 3" x 5" close-up photos of white birch bark. The photos are printed on paper suitable for pen and ink. The artist will draw outdoor related scenes (skiing, camping, hiking, climbing, etc) in pen and ink based on the characteristics of the tree bark. Use any pen & ink style that suits you.
Project “Old Man Smoking” Collage
This project’s goal is to create a collaboration of 6" x 6" collages with the theme of an old man’s face, smoking a pipe or a cigar. Participating artists will receive a canvas and bits, parts, and pieces of 1800's letters, receipts, and documents as well as cigar bands to use in making one portrait. Every piece of paper will be at least 120 years old (except for the cigar band) and will be turned into the "Old Man's Face" portrait. Each artist will start with different materials. We are looking for anonymous portraits, not famous faces. The final product to be sent back is the completed collage using the supplied materials with your interpretation of the project. Collage glue is at the choice of the artist.
Project “Vintage French Poster Advertising” Painting
This project is a collaboration of 4’’ x 6" paintings, inspired by 1920s-1930s French liquor advertising posters (see a few examples here). This is not meant to be a replica of an existing poster but rather an original creation, advertising a pre-prohibition whisky brand that will be given as part of the instruction packet, inspired by and portraying the same vintage French style. The final product to be sent back is the completed painting, we provide the canvas but not paint and brushes.
I Choose Old Man Smoking Collage
On April 10, We Are In Life Changing Car Wreck
On April 27, I get home from the hospital rehab and Materials Have Arrived For Project, i read all the old letters and ledgers that are provided.
I look through the materials and discover this part of this letter... within it it says "Joanna's health is poor, I wish I could go to see her." - I have just come home from the hospital - with a broken pelvis and this letter was written 120 years ago, and I received it.
it's like a hand reaching out from the 4th dimension! It's AMAZING!!!!
