365 Days of Gratitude: Day 19 - Perogies

in steemitblog •  5 years ago

Do you love perogies as much as I do? Of course you do. What's not to like? They're delicious dumpling type things filled with potatoes and any other potato-type variation a person can think of. And quite frankly, there is no easier or more satisfying snack to execute, and for a kitchen-idiot like me, that's good news. I know I talk about food a lot but seeing as we all eat multiple times it's an easy crutch to use for a daily gratitude blog project like I'm doing here.

Traditionally considered Polish peasant food, perogies eventually gained popularity and spread throughout all social classes. In fact, some cookbooks from the 17th century describe perogies as a staple of the Polish diet, and that each holiday had its own special kind of perogies complete with different fillings.

While the origin of perogies is debated and I couldn't find just one answer on where they came from, all I know for sure is that we're all very lucky to have them and we should all feel blessed about the pillowy potato goodness.
