Frameworks Issue #8: Certainly Uncertain: A Perspective on Gambling
Is being on STEEMit a gamble? Is investing in cryptocurrency gambling? I mean things can go south right? I mean REALLY SOUTH....... FAST!
How bout investing into something more "solid" like properties or stocks or gold?.... These things have stood the test of time... right? Sigh "Go to school... study..... get a stable job." (Whatever that means..... I mean do you know how many people have been retrenched in the oil business? But it was profitable just a couple of years ago right? Booming even.)
Have you heard someone tell you something they know nothing about because they know is better than what you know? Well if you're older than 1, someone has definitely tell you what to do and how to live your life...... out of the kindness of their hearts or harshness of their lips or both, I'm sure we can all relate to this 😃
Hmmmm.... where are you going with this?
Here are a few definitions of "gambling" in the dictionary :
: to stake or risk money, or anything of value, on the outcome of something involving chance
: to take a chance on; venture; risk:
- Any matter or thing involving risk or hazardous uncertainty.
- A venture in a game of chance for stakes, especially for high stakes.
To me, anything and/or everything is a gamble. Anything you stake your belief or actions to is a gamble. I mean how certain are we anything that we are doing is gonna be a sustainable way of living? If you wanna put it into down into something measurable then its basically a matter of percentage, 50-50 or the odds are either higher or lower.
If you're a crypto investor or trader, I'm sure you've come to realise that almost all predictions are futile. We basically just reap the results. I mean putting aside researching, studying the project and people behind the project and doing all due diligence, which I stand by as well, but ultimately whether it was a good investment or bad investment, good or bad timing, we only know it AFTER it happens.
In other words, I'm proposing to you that ALL of us are indeed "gambling" on something in hopes that what we think we are doing or where we think we are heading will actually materialise according to our hopes and perception.
I've noticed of the people I've help out of depression and/or being suicidal, everyone basically came to a realisation that they've been beaten by their own set of beliefs. Expectations in their minds weren't met therefore leading to hopes shattered leaving them with the feeling that they've lost something. And by losing something end up in a depressing situation and if that issue or feeling is not handled healthily end up in depression of which could lead to addiction and other unhealthy ways of dealing with the pain.
It is important to recognise with an open heart and teachable attitude that anyone of us is not immune to this, in fact, everyone is in a position that they're taking a chance or risking something and therefore being vulnerable to suffering loss.
Further Thoughts
So now since we've established that nothing actually truly has surety and everything is a gamble and could go either way, the focus shifts from the surface things of "What we are doing" to the essential and really important question of "Why we are doing it".
Conclusion
What?? Concluding already? This is a deeeeeeep rabbit hole man.... You can't be serious!
Well I won't and don't want to be a writer that tells you what to do or how to think. What II'm gonna tell you to ponder, search, study, learn, grow. The excitement of discovery alone is truly a gift to us as a human being. (more like being lazy to pen everything down properly)
No seriously.... the purpose of most of my blogging on my 'Frameworks' blogs are to make you think and ponder deep thoughts and from there journey and discover LIFE!
Thoughts of the day: Why?
Some advise though.....
While in the process of finding your purpose and identity in this life, I encourage you that whenever you face some disappointments or failed in a gamble, risk or investment, you CAN deal with it in a healthy way.
My highest recommendation and I'm not gonna explain as to why you should, is to talk to someone that will offend you. Offend your belief, offend your ideology, offend your mindset. And with humility and teachability, you're sure to discover a whole lot more outside your current frameworks.
You're a man looking at the world through a keyhole. You've spent your whole life trying to widen that keyhole... to see more, to know more. And now, on hearing that it can be widened, in ways you can't imagine, you reject the possibility. Your work saved the lives of thousands. What if I told you THAT reality is one of many? - Ancient One, Doctor Strange movie
there is no best investment. if there is, we wouldn't be diversifying whatever that we have. you are very right though! nice points!

Thanks Daniel.
My wife says anything with crypto is definitely gambling even Steemit blogging.
The question to me is are we fighting for our Lord here or compromising to make a profit? It is what I have to ask myself each day. Thank you for your efforts.

My parents used to told me in life everything is an investment, that includes gambling. You need to know who you are, what you have and then invest them wisely. There's a period of time my family went through a very hard time due to unavoidable natural disaster. Our finance closed to zero, and with 6 children to feed, my dad took the last RM10 he had and went to play mazhong, a few hours later he cane back with hundreds of ringgit. Many time in the past he had to do so. He was criticized by many because of his gambling. But my stepmother stood beside him because she knew he took the high risk investment with his skill. Off course he is not a avid gambler who doesn't shoulder the responsibility as a adult, husband and father. So is crypto a gambling? Yes. Is crypto an investment? Yes. What determines it is how you handle it.

Sometimes it seems that we do not know why we do things, because we take risks, often because we want changes that improve our environment
