That A Hero Lies In You | Music Review [Steemit Bloggers' Contest]

I was never in the limelight. And I love it that way! Helping people at the back. Doing backscene job. Be the faithful follower. Always supporting your leader. Take up the position of either treasurer or secretary, but never a President. I love background job. And I was in such a state at school from age 9 to age 12.

Moving into secondary school, challenges started to stomp in your way without you welcoming them.

It was that time of my growing up when various hormones started to show up. It was the teens journey. Peer pressures and comparison were inevitable. I did not like the limelight but I seek acknowledgement. Dilemma. Irony of life. I was self-sufficient yet void and empty at some points, without any reasons. The emotions were taking their control to steer your life. I had no problem with self-esteem until the teens' years. I was stucked in the tunnel of roller-coaster ride.

And then when your body started to change due to puberty, life took another detour. I was skinny back then at primary school and then out of a sudden, my hip, thigh and buttock grew bigger. Girls and boys loved to talk about it and compare it for fun. It was fun during the talk but back home in my room, I felt my confidence was being thrown out of the window.

Being among the top students had its advantages and disadvantages. Advantage - you were popular. Disadvantages - pressure and pressure and pressure. Expectations from teachers and friends would be there whether you like it or not.

Then I was nominated to represent school for debate competition. Becoming librarian and prefect. All these I still could withstand as long as I was not doing the leader job. Everything was fine. Until I was appointed to be a President of Junior Jaycees Club. I was not given a chance to choose. The former President would be migrating elsewhere and so they upgraded me from Secretary to President - impromptu.

Me? I was nobody - I always thought so. I prefer to be nobody and let other people shine.

But deep down I also loved the recognition. At least I knew the committee and teachers trusted me.

I pondered. I wondered. Was I qualified?

That time I was also in PA group where we broadcasted songs during recess time. My partner broadcasted this song and it rang a bell in me. My spirit got caught up and I remembered I rose up from my timidness and into the courageous side of me.

I took the role of President knowing that there was a hero in me. Even if I did not see it nor did I feel it, I knew and I knew it existed. I just to let it emerge. I did it - to do something great in life even it had to be in the limelight.

That was how this song impacted me back then, up until today. When I felt I could not, then I was assigned to be worship leader at my church. When I felt I was not capable, I was given a group of youths to lead them, to empower them. When I thought I had no vision, God said I can pastor His people, leading them from nobody to leaders. When I thought I was the worst mum ever, I was given a son with health condition who turns out to be a hero too - one who wears scars of surgery with victor cape. One who makes me a hero mummy.

I am grateful for this song. Never underestimate how a song can be the anchor of your soul, the rudder of your life's direction.

No one is useless. No one is nobody. In fact, there is a hero in everybody. Truth is - there's a hero lies in you. That is you. You are the hero!

My Favourite Song

Hero

by Mariah Carey

LYRICS

There's a hero
If you look inside your heart
You don't have to be afraid
Of what you are

There's an answer
If you reach into your soul
And the sorrow that you know
Will melt away

And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you'll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you

It's a long road
When you face the world alone
No one reaches out a hand
For you to hold
You can find love
If you search within yourself
And that emptiness you felt
Will disappear

Lord knows
Dreams are hard to follow
But don't let anyone
Tear them away, hey yeah
Hold on
There will be tomorrow
In time you'll find the way

And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you'll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you
That a hero lies in you
Mmm, that a hero lies in you

I would never think that a song can give such a motivation kick! WOW, glad to see how you evolved. I can say that some song played and sang along with my friends around bonfires took a great impact on my life and changed me. They're in polish, so it's very difficult to talk about story behind them.

Hi @route-m-d, oh yes, songs play a huge role in my life. I definitely love the time singing with friends, but I have never tried around bonfire. :)

Thank you for stopping by 😉

I love this song too.
Reminds me when I got dumped by my first BF back in school days 😁
Still a good song with very meaningful lyrics

Really? I would say he didn't dump but he had bad taste. Haha.

Simon, on the other hand, has good taste. 😊

Yes, meaningful. Now I look at Mariah Carey and felt she never grows old.

Happy Thanksgiving @iamjadeline. Many thanks for your continuous support in food model contest week after week. 😃

Excellent story. I've never been a huge Mariah Carey fan, but she does have a beautiful voice. You've made a good choice here.

I am not a huge fan of Mariah Carey too. I love Celine Dion. However, this song she composed impacted me. It was that moment! :) thank you @blockurator for reading and the support.
