At the beginning of the week Xiaomi had started the rollout of the MIO Oreo update for Mi6, but today it's the turn of its predecessor Mi5. The new version brings a series of fixes (find the detail at the end of the article), the security patch of February and especially Android Oreo 8.0.
As this is a version step, affected users will need to manually flash the beta even if they use Global Beta MIUI ROM on their devices. This is due to the fact that the incremental update to MIUI 8.3.1 is still based on Android Nougat 7.0.

If you do not want to embark on such an operation you can always wait a few weeks waiting for the update to arrive at all via OTA. The next devices to be upgraded to Oreo should be Mi Max 2 and probably Mi Max and Mi Max Prime.
