Hello everyone,
This week's theme for SCC is not easy for me because I am not yet a parent and I have never made baby foods before. I dont have any idea at all. Even after doing some research, I am not confident to submit any entry but okay, I'll give it a try. This might be a good training for me before having my own kids :-D
This theme reminds me something when I was a kid. My mother used to take care of my little cousin because my aunt had to get back to work back then. My mom sometimes prepared some baby foods for the baby but I often ate it as well because it's so good that I can also eat it. It was like a veggies purée or some kind of porridge. Sorry cousin, I stole a bit your food :-D
So, this recipe was inspired from here but I modified it to my version. I did check and recheck the guidelines just to make sure that I'm good to go with the ingredients.
Ingredients
- 250 gr ground chicken
- 250 gr firm tofu, mashed
- 1 medium carrot, cut into tiny cubes
- 1 small stick celery, chopped
- 1 spring onion, chopped
- 1 handful spinach, chopped
- 1 egg
- 1 cup oatmeal
- 1 tsp cumin
Methods
- In a large clean bowl, place all the ingredients.
- Mix everything with your hand until it is well incorporated.
- Preheat oven to 200° C and line a baking tray with parchment paper or silicone baking mat. Scoop one tablespoon of the mixture, form the into a ball. At this stage, if you make a big batch of the recipe, you may freeze it.
- Bake for 12 minutes or until it's gently brown.
- Ready to serve :-)
Me and my partner tested some of it and it's amazingly good even though I only seasoned the balls with cumin. I didn't add any salt in it. I even delivered these finger foods for my mother in law :-D She liked it. Unfortunately I couldn't deliver some to my nephew ( 2,5 yo) to test it. But I am sure he will like it, especially when he sees the picture below ;-)
Before signing off, I'd like to say thank you to the host, the judge, the sponsors and all participants for their efforts to making SCC growing bigger and bigger. I learn a lot from SCC and I cant thank them enough for this :-)

Excellent, well done @ikaputri3! I know you were a little unsure about this theme but you have put together some wonderful food that would definitely appeal to infants. Tasty, wholesome & nutritious ingredients, easy to prepare, colourful appearance (and I love that plate!)... perfect! Spinach is a great choice to add, as it's a subtle flavour so can be chopped or blended in with just about anything you feed baby. It's a wonderful source of iron, especially for infants eating a vegetarian diet, but even if they eat meat the greens are still crucial! Chicken is tasty, smells great, excellent source of protein (and the skin can be blended up & added to meals too for the fat content), and most meat-eating children seem to enjoy chicken. I also like that you added cumin, because spices are best introduced early in life so children can develop their pallets. These would actually be perfect for my boy right now... he is just at the finger food stage, getting used to more chunky food and feeding himself. Great entry, good luck!!!

Ooh I am so relieved reading this. I hesitated about blending the chicken skin with the chicken meat. It's good to know that it can be added to the meal as well. I read about the introduction of the spices in early life and I thought I'd give it a try. Thanks for your "review" @woman-onthe-wing! I learned a lot this time :-D

I'm really pleased to hear you found it a good learning experience too! I know it's hard when you have no experience taking care of an infant's nutritional needs, but it's actually very straightforward when you start thinking about it... Whole foods, nothing processed, refined, no GMOs or artificial additives of any kind (not even preservatives)... so as long as what you prepare for an infant is real food (!) then you can't really go wrong!

Well, it looks very delicious, and I greet you with this rich recipe for the baby. Actually, when my daughter was still a baby, I always had a hard time diversifying her daily meals, so I often did a soup that was easy to eat.

I can imagine how hard it is to make meal plan for our kids. You need to be creative yet careful on the ingredients.

Wow, it's really hard to believe! I am still learning about baby food until now :-D I guess I'll start to make some list menu for my future baby :-D Thanks Joanna for supporting me! :-)
Btw, someone asked if it's possible to submit the SCC's entry in French? I said it's not possible. May you please confirm? Thanks a lot :-)

If they wanted to submit in French as well as English that will be perfectly acceptable. They could use Google Translate easily to do this, and even though the translation's not always perfect, many other participants have done this and it seems to work ok! I don't want anyone to feel excluded just because of language barriers :-)
