The Making of A Judging Area in Front of My House!

Our town celebrates a Municipal Fiesta, in connection of the founding f our town. We call it the Salakayan Festival depicting the struggles and happenings during the early eras but I will make a post about it later.

We have food fairs, cultural shows, and tribe competitions. It is a whole week of activites. It is usually held the first week of Feb. Just after all the other festival in Iloilo, Cebu and Aklan the Dinagyang, Sinulog and Ati-atihan. So those that go home for vacation especially from Miagao can experience the festivities here. Also a lot of High School and elementary reunions.

These are the scheduled activities that will be happening around the town. It will be a fun and colorful affair.

Since there will be a tribe competition there are judging areas being put up around the town. When they started I think about 20 years agao all the judging areas have been in the middle of the town. But theses past 3 years they decided to place one right in front of my house! Might not be a really good view because we can see it only from the sides but it is better than those who have to stand around in the heat. Also it's free.

They started a few days ago and even if the opening salvo will be on Monday, they have to finish putting it p at least by Wednesday when the parades start. So the tribes can start practicing their formation and placements.

You can see it is placed just right in front of my house. It will be noisy and a lot of people are asking to go up my balcony but I will have to limit. The first year they were here so many people came to the house and some I did not know most. I was not even able to sit coz they took my place lol.

As of today 2-3-18 this is what has been finished. They might be working tomorrow. Kind of hectic because they have to put up 3 judging area and this year we are judging area #3 before we were #2. But it will be a carousel type. They will be putting up sides and a roof.

So while there is banging and dust in my house, there banging and dust outside. But in the end everything will be good. This festival does not require houses to prepare food like on Sept. 22. because there is a food fest in the plaza. It is up to the discretion of the family if they want to.
