It is sometimes easier to just agree with your friends or family. It does not cause a fight and most of the time everybody is happy. but in reality, we cannot always agree with everything somebody says.
Disagreeing with someone can sometimes come out wrong and sound as though you are rude or do not have respect for the other person and before you know it you are wrapped up in a fight.
Lets have a look at a few ways how you can 'respectfully disagree'.
If somebody says something you do not agree with, do not feel that they are attacking you personally. We cannot always have the same point of view and sometimes we disagree. That is fine, but being mean and shouting at the person because they have a different idea than you is not the way to go.
We can learn from others and if we give them a chance to explain their believe, you will maybe still disagree, but at least you gave them a chance to give their opinion and you did not force them to believe what you do.
There will be many times that you do not agree with somebody. Do not be mean and say things like 'You are stupid if you believe that.' Calmly explain to them why you feel differently about it.
Imagine how boring life would be if we all thought in the same way. We have different believes and views and that is fine. But do not be a bully about it...
If you are trying to make your point, do not sound as though you are attacking the other person. Rather explain how you feel, why you do not agree and why you have a different view.
Even if you do not agree with someone, you can still be a good listener. Give them a chance to tell you their side of the story or view. In the same way you would appreciate it if someone listen to you, show them the same respect.
It can be very difficult to stay calm in 'the heat of an argument' or disagreement, but try and remember that nothing will be resolved and no one will listen during a 'screaming match'.
There is no law that say you may not disagree with someone, but it is all in the 'way' you do it. Be respectful and mindful of other's feelings and remember that they are also human and want to be treated in that way. Not looked down on or end up feeling bad.
And sometimes you can just 'agree to disagree' instead of being part of a fight - respect the views of others, even if you think they are wrong.
