You have been begging and pleading your parents to give their permission for a nose ring or a bellybutton ring or any sort of piercing and now at last they said yes!!
You are excited but also scared because you do not really know what to expect or how to handle a body piercing or not even really sure what type of piercing you want.
The most important thing and top of your list must be to find somebody who knows their trade and not go to a "backyard parlor" where the chances of getting an infection or something worse is better than getting a piercing.
After you have decided on the person you trust to do your body piercing you can expect the following when you get there
- they will clean the area which is going to be pierced (except the tongue) with an anti-bacterial mixture or soap (it is very important to clean the area to prevent infection)
- the area where you want the piercing will be pierced with a sharp needle (make sure they use a new one from a sealed packet)
- the jewelry that you have chosen (or a stud) will be placed into the hole (this piece of jewelry must be sterilized before the time or come from a sealed packet)
- after the jewelry is in, it must be sterilized again
- make sure you listen carefully to the instructions given on how to take care of the new piercing
If you have decided to get a nose piercing, you can watch the video to answer some of the questions you may have
You must be aware that certain piercings will need more care like the tongue and the nose, since there are more bacteria living on these parts.
This means you have to take special care and clean these areas often to prevent infection. Also know that tongue piercings can damage the teeth and piercings in your tongue and cheek and lip can also cause problems with your gums.
This does not mean it will happen but there is a possibility so just be aware of it before you make a decision on where you want a piercing.
As I said in the beginning it is very important to get a reliable person that takes a lot of care with hygiene when you make your decision.
Go and have a look at the parlor, ask questions, find out if they use new, sterilized needles, make sure when you sit down for the piercing that the person puts on new gloves, the jewelry is sterilized and the needles and gloves used are disposed of afterwards.
Not to scare you but just to inform you.... things can go wrong.
Another reason to choose a reputable person to do the piercing. 'Youtube' is full of horror stories of piercings that have gone wrong. If you have to stomach to watch it you can.
The more care the person takes doing the piercing, the less the chances are of the an infection, or a lot of bleeding or even hepatitis B or C. Inflammation and a boil forming is also a possibility.
At the end of the day getting a body piercing is your decision. If you do your homework and find a person who does it in a professional hygienic way, the chances are that every thing will go according to plan.
The up side is that a piercing is not permanent like a tattoo, so if you do not want it any more, you can just remove the piecing.
If you have already gotten your piercing and it is infected, you can get some tips on how to treat it.
If you are not sure on which piercing you would like or what it is called you can get some info from the video
