I absolutely agree that it is detrimental to a child’s progress to take a month off school. However, many of the families in my school who visit their home country during the school term must do so because they are accommodating family, seasons, or holidays in their homeland. In this case, I say more power to them! Children’s lives and education can certainly be enriched and strengthened by being immersed in their parents’ language and culture for a good stretch!
