THE LITTLE FIRE ENGINE

A long time ago there was a little boy who wanted a fire engine very much.

The family did not have a lot of money but they were very happy. 

This little boy decided to ask his father to make him a fire engine from a box so that he could play that he was a fireman. 

His father was really handy and he could make wonderful things with his hands. He then made the fire engine out of a little box and gave to his son.

The little boy was so pleased. He took his fire engine with him wherever he went.  

He took it to school, showed his friends and even slept with it in his bed. 

This was his most prized possession.

Every night when his mother read him a bedtime story, he would hold the engine in his hand under the blanket, listening to the story. 

One evening his mother said to him ”How much do you love me?”  

The little boy said very much more than you would ever know. Then the mother said "please give me your little fire engine?" 

The boy said he would give her anything she wanted,but not his fire engine, that was his  little fire engine as he was so thrilled with it. 

His mother said that is was not a problem. The next evening after story time she asked him the same question again and he repeated that he would give her anything except his little fire engine.  This went on for a few days until he realised he did not love the fire engine more than his mother and said,

“Here mom, I do love you more than my fire engine take it please?” 

She took the fire engine and then she kissed him. Thank you my darling son. But the only reason I wanted your fire engine is because I saved up and bought you a real one.

She gave him the fire engine and he was so pleased. 

He realised that by being so selfish he lost out on the new fire engine for quite a while. He also learned that possessions are not as important as being loved. 

So remember rather be good  person, and be loved, than having a lot of possessions, this will make your life so much happier.
