This lady made me realise that we are not responsible for the problems in going green

I love writing about recycling, and when I found this video I could not help laughing.

What this lady says is so true back in the day we did not have this green thing.

We walked mostly where we wanted to go, we used brown paper bags, and our bottles were given back to the store as well as our milk bottles.

These were then washed and reused and that is good recycling.

But later these plastic bags come to light as well as the pop up plastic to cover things when you want to send something that is breakable.

If I sit and think back, we did not start the problems with green thing as she calls it, the younger generation is responsible for that.

They came along and did all the inventions that we all enjoy, and for that reason we were thankful. We did not realise that people will be so wasteful, and just leave stuff lying around. That is why our beaches and oceans look terrible.

When all these things appeared we realised that it is not good for the environment, and now we have to teach children how to recycle.

In my young days we did not recycle as there was nothing that needed to be recycled.

We used things like nappies that we washed and they looked so beautiful on the drying line. I use to think it is so beautiful. We did not have a washing machine and my husband and I had tremendous fun using soap that we grated and made ourselves to wash the nappies in.

We would put them in the bath and stamp them with our feet, it was hilarious as we sometimes slipped and fell in the bath.

This lady on this video took me back to my youth and I am now realising that we were not the culprits.

But today it is so important to teach children to recycle as they are not responsible for our problems but they must learn, and really try to fix it.

Fortunately there are so many people seeing the problem and trying to help by making things that we can use again.

Maybe this has only one good thing that has come from it, as it is giving people work who maybe would not have had any.

So instead of saying the glass is half emty we should look at it in a different way.

Wonderful things like technology came along and like I said yesterday medically they can now help people that might never have been helped.

So please watch this wonderful video, as this old lady that I think is still younger than me is telling this cashier what happened long ago.

I hope you enjoy this and have a wonderful recycling day from me. Things were cheaper as well but not exactly the way this man is telling us.

Hi @bigbear,

great post. I think recycling is the second best way of dealing with waste, just after avoiding it from the beginning.

I am living in Germany, where we mainly use the third best way, we burn it and use the energy from this process to generate electricity and heat. It requires a lot of technology to purify the fumes and still some residue of the incineration needs to be disposed.

I cannot understand how some regions still use landfills or so many plastic waste goes into the oceans.

The pictures in your post are truely inspiring. I think whenever I will be a father I will rather build cool stuff from old boxes than buy it.

Keep up the great work.

Thank you for your wonderful reply.

you are right!

Clothing was recycled within families, today it gets given to charity or people unable to afford. Old toys were taken to aged homes where the retired would fix and repair to send to orphanages. Today radio advertises drop of new toys in certain stores, the old is thrown into the trash can!

Today's population has grown exponentially, everyone wants brand new, markets are flooded with cheap nasty items making disposal happen quicker.

Hardware is manufactured to last the life of a warranty, not built to give you the years and years of service as happened in yesteryear.

Good always comes with bad, technology has edged us into a new era hopefully the negatives never outweigh positive.
