DIY Natural Facials To Try Out

I have been blessed with a family who not only loves eating healthy foods but also going the natural way when it comes to getting facials done, there’s nothing more satisfying than having your skin look gorgeous and knowing that you used natural ingredients for it to get like that . Plus, it is way better than worrying about any harmful chemicals that are put into products.

It is a priority in our household to make sure that we get facials done once a week or at least twice a month, especially now that it is winter in South Africa and the air is dry which then dries out the face and can be extremely annoying. So today we are going to look at a few ways you can make quick DIY facial masks and scrubs that are inexpensive to make and hopefully with things you already have in your home!

Most of the masks below, if not all, are very easy to make and very inexpensive so enjoy!

Yogurt mask: To moisturize your face on a lazy day, just apply some plain yogurt and relax for about 15-20 minutes before washing it off and feeling the difference.

Milk peel off mask: To get rid of hyperpigmentation and to exfoliate and smooth your skin you can use this peel off mask. All you'll need is some milk and gelatine! Warm up the milk then add the gelatine and mix until it has dissolved then wait for it to cool down before applying it onto your face.

Honey and lemon mask : This mixture not only makes your skin smooth but it also brightens and clears your skin and all you need to do is apply this onto your face for 15 minutes then wash it off.

Cocoa face scrub:  Who doesn't love the smell of chocolate!!?? If you do then you'll love the smell of this scrub, you'll need some cocoa powder, olive oil, brown sugar and vanilla extract. Mix all these then apply it to your face and just rub away for 45-60 seconds.

Olive oil and lemon mask: If you’re looking to exfoliate your skin then look no further! This has two ingredients in it, which are just olive oil and lemon juice! Apply it onto your face for at least 5 minutes and 10 minutes if you can handle the itchy feeling you’ll get from the lemon.

Activated charcoal peel off mask: The activated charcoal peel off mask is by far my favourite! Why? Because it not only removes any dead skin and clears my skin, it also only has two ingredients! Ingredients: Activated charcoal and gelatine.

Orange peel off mask: To keep yourself looking youthful try out this mask. You’ll need some orange juice and some gelatine. Heat up the juice then add a sachet of gelatine and mix that until the gelatine has dissolved and the mixture has cooled down then you’re ready to apply it!

Oats mask: With the air getting dryer and dyer this winter, this next facial mask is awesome! All you’ll need is oats, yogurt, green tea, honey and apple cider vinegar. You’ll need to mix all these together to form a paste then apply it on your face for 8-15 minutes. The yogurt will moisturize your skin and the oats will reduce irritation.

Lemon scrub: All you'll need is lemon juice, honey and sugar then scrub the mixture on your face for a much more smoother and brighter skin.

Cucumber peel off mask: When I first saw this mask I was shocked because the ingredients include things that we always have in our fridge meaning that I could literally make this whenever I want to. Now to the important stuff, we know that cucumbers are great for when you have puffy eyes and that you just need to slice a cucumber and put it on your eye. But for this mask we need just the juice of the cucumber then once we’ve got that we need to heat it up enough for us to add gelatine to the juice and let that dissolve then shockingly add some green tea! This mixture will moisturize your skin and also soothe it.

Tips and Things to remember!

  • Remember that the peel off masks all have gelatine in them so you have to make sure that the gelatine has completely dissolved before putting the mixture onto your face so that it actually peels off.
  • You will feel the mixture tightening up because of the gelatine drying up.
  • To make sure you don’t make a mess, use a brush to apply the facials.
  • Steam your face to open your pores before applying  the facials for the best results.
  • Lemon brightens skin.
  • Oats reduces irritation.
