Figures of a Speech (Let's learn series #8 : English Literature)

         Hello learners! So what's up? Why don't we start this year's lessons with an advanced lesson? So let's see what the examples for the Figures of Speech. 

Simile

A comparison between two different things which are alike in some point. Here, we use ''as'' or ''like''

eg:

       She is beautiful as a flower.

       She is busy like a bee.

       My uncle is fat as an elephant.

Metaphor

This is a comparison expressed directly.

eg:

      Sometimes I'm a headache for my parents.

       She is a real genius.

Personification

Here an inanimate or an abstract thing is treated as a person or a living thing.

       Sometimes my pen sleeps in my pencil case.

       Steem is great and sometimes he jumps so high.

       A bed is always loved and hugged by his owners.

Alliteration

The repetition of the same consonant sound in two or more words in close succession.

eg:

Assonance

The repetition of the same vowel sound in close succession.

The heavy door banged shut. 


This is the first English literature lesson I had and also the first I taught. I learnt these things today. So don't hesitate to tell me if I'm wrong at any point.
