I have been a bit concerned at the rate at which Steemians are being retained on the platform, while some hang on for a while a good number actually abandon their account. This is due to the fact that they have a wrong impression of how Steemit works.

  • Firstly Steemit is not a get rich quick scheme where you put anything out there on your blog and expect to get rewards. The amount of rewards or upvotes you get to a large extent is due to your interaction with the communities and influencers in the the Steem ecosystem. So its best to join different communotes of like minds or agenda and build meaniful relationship. There are many communities on discord, Telegram and Whatsapp which newbies can join to interact with the Steem blockchain.

Still these may not guarantee you have a steady upvotes from Dolphins, Orcas or Whales though you might actually get lucky and come across a benevolent one. The surest way of getting upvotes is to grow with your fellow Planktons or minnows, once you gain their trust the journey to the top begins as some of the top Steemians started out as Planktons.

This is the reason why newbies need to join communities like Euronation which pride itself on recruiting newbies on to the platform and teaching how to succeed afterwards. A good number of the recruited members are making their mark on the platform and more are still being recruited on daily basis.

  • Another way newbies can engage the Steem ecosysytem is through making comments on blogs, in fact a seasoned Steemian once said newbies should comment more in the begining of their Steemit journey than posting articles. Initially I made the same mistakes most newbies make by using comments like nice post, great post, trying to suck up to the author especially if its a Dolphin or Whale. Some newbies and Oldbies will not read up and proceed to commenting, thereby spamming the blog. I learnt comment should be given in such a way tjat the author will be able to respond to the topic being discussed. Questions can also be asked on the subject of discuss or related topics, you can also use comments to add further information on the topic being discussed.
  • If you have done all of the above and still it seems you are not making any headway, do not quit because you never know when an influencer will pick interest in your blog, so my advice is to keep blogging as you will be rewarded for your consistency along the line. Keep in mind if you do not blog or comment you do not earn. So by every means keep activities up on your blog.

Some influencers have also advocated for newbies to find their niche or focus on a specific subjects and with time can have a go at other areas of specialization once they become known to the community.

I have written on different subjects myself, though I wouldn't consider myself a benchmark by which any newbie will be measured. Folks have different style of writing, therefore I urge newbies to look around and find a mentor that will aid them to success on the Steem blockchain.

  • Finally newbies should try and attend meet ups to learn more about Steemit and what it takes to be successful on the platform.

It also gives Planktons the opportunity to interact with leaders of their various communities.

Today is @euronation organized meet up in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria.
Hope you are there?

Thank you and have lovely weekend

Steemit is my hobby.....now I like it and enjoy it.

I think another major issue newbies need to consider is the issue of

getting overwhelmed and not knowing what to do about or with the numerous resources.

As a newbie, i am privileged to be a member of Euronation and trust me that group has helped me get a standing here. but somehow for the life of me i just don't know how to harness the power this group holds.

This is what i think is the major challenge of most newbies.

The groups are there, on whatsapp, telegram, discord.....,etc. we join so many of them yet we are torn between getting attention in these groups and turning out contents regularly, with all these its easy to feel overwhelmed and just give up.

No one ever said it would be easy, and if you can succeed in steemit, you can succeed anywhere else, i guess thats all that matters

I love this advice i do more on commenting now because am a newbies and it bring me joy to be on steemit and also improve my blogging life generally

I wrote an article about 'Who are You'
If you truly know your identity and things you have passion for, you will enjoy steemit a lot, because i see it as an opportunity to show the world what you have passion for even when no money is paid you. Euronation group has really helped me tremendously, thanks.

Commenting actually bring your name out there and helps you stuck in the mind of many steemians who might be interested in learning more about you and what you bring to steemit. However, commenting should not be valued over creating useful posts because when people come to your page, they want to know what you blog about and if they did not see much, they are not likely to follow you.

As a newbie, this post has really been helpful. I have noted these words- consistency, interaction, appropriate way of commenting on posts, not giving up .I look forward to a time of learning at euronation.
