Bible stories for kids 4 - Family record of Adam and the times before Noah.

Before I tell you the story of Noah and the Ark, I am going to tell you where Noah comes from. After Cain killed Abel, God gave Eve another boy and his name was Set. Set had children and Set's children had children and they had children and so on and later there were plenty of people on earth and Noah was one them. In those years the people became very old.

Let's look at some examples. Adam was 130 years old when he got a boy. His boy's name was Set. Can you believe this? Adam lived 930 years before he died. And his son, Set, lived for 912 years before he died. In this times there was a very special man called Enoch. Enoch lived very close to God. This is one of the men in the Bible that did not die, God just took him to heaven. He lived 365 years. (We have 365 days in a year)

When Enoch was 65 years old when he had a boy, called Methuselah. He also had other sons and daughters and he got very old. Methuselah was 969 years old when he died. (Till today this is the person on earth that lived the longest).

Methusalah got a son called Lamech who lived for 777 years and Lamech got a son called Noah.

Now I want to tell you about the giants and where they came from.
The Bible tells us that with God there are angels in heaven. But there was some other bad angels that God throw out of heaven. Their leader was satan, you remember the one that was in the snake that spoke to Eve in the Garden of Eden. These bad angels saw that there were beautiful women on earth and they took them as wives.

The wives of these bad angels got very big babies and their babies became giants. And as the years progressed, these giants became just worse and worse.

All these people just thought of bad and evil things to do everyday. And the Lord said, “My Spirit will not remain with mankind forever, because they are corrupt. Their days will be 120 years.”
So God decided that the people on earth won't lived now for much more than 120 years.

God looked at the earth and He saw that it was corrupt and filled with violence. God was sorry that He had made people and it grieved Him in His heart.

And the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.”

But there was only one man and his family who was good and fair. This man was Noah and Noah got three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

They did not live like all these other people who's hearts was full of violence and evil. He and his family served God and lived near God.

So next time I will tell you about Noah.

I used the New King James Bible and also read some other translations.
