During raining season when tomatoes is cheaper, you can buy many and store. With the tips in this article, you will always have tomato paste around. If the procedure is followed correctly, you can store tomatoes for up to a year.

Things you will need

  1. Fresh tomatoes
  2. Glass jar
  3. Pots
  4. Blender
  5. Cooker

The first step is to grind the tomatoes, remove the spoilt ones. You don't want the spoilt ones ruining the taste.

Next, put the blended tomatoes in a pot, according to the quantity you blended. Use a pot size that would contain all. Then place the pot on a cooker, allow for steaming to take place. When the water has evaporated, then you will have tomatoe paste. Do not let it burn.

Bring your glass jars now, make sure you have washed it earlier. You do not want your tomato paste tasting having a jam smell. Pour the tomato paste into the jar, till it is filled.

After sealing the glass jars, place into a pot filled with water. Allow the jar to be completely immersed in the water. Then, allow the pot containing water and and glass jars to boil for some minutes. Preferably till it produces steam.

Lastly, remove the jars from the pot and place in a cool dry place. You do not need to put in a fridge.

Points to note:

  1. Ensure the jars are completely immersed in water when boiling.

  2. Use glass jars that are air tight. That is, glass jars that can be sealed properly.

  3. Once the glass jar is opened, take the desired amount and refrigerate.

Can one use plastic containers instead of bottles?

Glass jars would be preferable. Plastics might melt on heating, making it not suitable for storing the paste.

How long can this tomatoes last when preserved. Should one reboil daily or weekl.

After the steps are followed, it can last up to a year. And you don't need to boil weekly :)

Thanks for the information 👍
Will try it sometime
