What is racism and discrimination? | Serious problem that still exists in society.

Day after day you live a myriad of situations in which you possibly inadvertently, you are being racist with someone, in most cases surely you do it consciously, but why this way of acting towards the rest? Will your country be one of the most racist in the world? It is advisable to check the world statistics, to realize where they are now and to be ashamed of it..

In my view this should be a global priority, racism and discrimination should not exist, but start with yourself, right now, in your way of being to others, do you do it with respect? If you are always right in everything you do, then something is wrong. The behavior you have towards others by being different will define you as a person. "We are all so limited, that we always believe to be right" Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

See and analyze how our world is, the smallest are the ones who suffer the most and do not realize it, we have to start collaborating with everyone so that this does not persist in the future.

What are racism and discrimination?

Discrimination has repercussions at different levels on people who are victims of this problem: Low self-esteem, insecurity, fears and repression make up a series of factors that threaten mental health, an evil that few people pay attention to, but it must be understood as a big problem that attacks our society.

Racism is a form of discrimination centered on biological differences, real or imaginary, that are extended to cultural or religious signs or indicators. It constitutes an ideology that appealed to biology to establish hierarchical relationships of inequality between human groups.

Some authors have pointed out that there are multiple ways in which racism is manifest and recognized as such, and for this reason it is possible to speak of many "racisms" in the plural. However, we can distinguish in a general way, a single historical phenomenon emerged within Western society and expanded to the rest of the world as an ideology..

Where does racism originate?

Racism arose in the West and has approximately two hundred years since its formation, hence it is commonly defined as a phenomenon of modernity.

We understand, therefore, racism as a fundamentally social and modern phenomenon, as a set of ideologies, preconceptions, stereotypes and prejudices that tend to segment the human group in supposed groups that would have characteristics common to each other, whose explanation would lie in a supposed genetic inheritance..

Although there are other types of racism in many other parts of the world, the most common and historically devastating form of racism has been European racism against non-European peoples.

What is xenophobia?

It is extremely important to make a conceptual precision of the relationship between the terms "racism" and "xenophobia".

Xenophobia, that is, contempt, hatred or rejection towards migrants from other nations, is not indifferent to the subjects on which it is exercised: it is not with any migrant population that the waves of hate or social contempt awaken.

In this sense, we see that xenophobia shares the discriminatory mechanisms that characterize racism: the sociocultural characteristics based on physical and cultural traits on which the prejudices that create fear and the sense of threat are built, particularly in the case of xenophobia. For all the above is that we consider that, although they are different concepts, xenophobia can not be understood in a finished way without being thought along with racism.

Let's start with our children.

White or black skin, straight or curly hair, ugly or handsome... What else does our appearance look like? Let's take it for granted that we are all different in many respects and equal in others. And that we are all important, neither better nor worse, neither more nor less. That is the message I give to the little ones. That no matter the color or nationality that a person has, and yes its good virtues and attitudes, because I believe that children are not born racist, who does so are the people who live with them..
