Introduction to Greatest Common Factor or gcf

Today we will discuss greatest common factor which is also known as gcf in short form. In grade four after learning factors and how to find all the factors of a numbers, kids get ready to learn about greatest common factor of two numbers (two numbers are least but kids should be able to find gcf of even three or more numbers).

As it appears from the name we have to find the greatest of factors of two given numbers. The prerequisite is the knowledge of finding all the factors of a number.

Following is the short lesson I prepared to introduce gcf to 4th graders;
