Using Decimals to Value Money or Currency

Decimal system is very useful to denominate the currency of a nation. Each country has a base unit of currency which can be a Dollar, Euro, Yuan, Rupee or any other form. Then decimal system is used to break down this base unit into smaller units (smaller denominations) also called Change or coinage. Mostly base unit is break down to hundredths. For example a penny is One Hundredths of a Dollar in USA or Canada.

In grade 4, kids should be able to add or subtract small denomination coins and this post gives an opportunity or idea to learn this basic skill. Below are the activity sheets on the concept;
