Place Value to Thousandths

In this post we will explore place value to Thousandths. Kids in grade five should know the following about the decimals;

  • 5 is same as 5.0; similarly 1 = 1.0;   2 = 2.0;  3 = 3.0 and all the other whole numbers.
  • 5.1 is read as Five and One Tenths (So first decimal place starts with TENTHS)
  • 5.11 is read as Five and Eleven Hundredths (Or Five and One Tenths One Hundredths)
  • 5.111 is read as Five and One Hundred Eleven Thousandths (Or Five and One Tenths One Hundredths One Thousandths)
  • 5,202,793.05 is read as Five Millions Two-hundred-two Thousands Seven Hundred Ninety Three and Five Hundredths.
