One of the pupils competency this 4th quarter in our Civics 2 (Sibika 2) subject here in the Philippines is to appreciate the importance of teamwork (pagtutulungan o bayanihan). The pupils are expected to do things which is helpful to the community as a whole especially in times of crisis.
As a teacher it is not easy to think of a certain activity that would help students have a purposeful experience.
Why it is not easy?
It's because of authenticity.
Thinking of real scenarios for bayanihan or teamwork is not that easy. Yes, we teachers may have a story telling, practical situations, or a movie but it is somewhat difficult for the children to realize that the activities given are meaningful.
That dilemma right now is the one which helped me think of the activity below.

GENERAL CLEANING
Having general cleaning inside the classroom is somewhat authentic and purposeful.
Before we started doing the activity, I first instructed my pupils about the following:
- Always be safe at all times.
- No playing while cleaning.
- Group assignments-walls, floor, tables, board, and toilet.

POST ACTIVITY
After the activity, we had an exchange of thoughts as to how important bayanihan or helping inside the classroom or in a community. In addition, I let them make a journal in a bondpaper.
