On my way to work I have to cross a major highway which is usually very busy in the morning (being a rush hour). This morning when I got to the point to cross, I met a group of people, predominantly women who were standing by. They seem to have been there for a while. What surprises me was that they look terrified and seem not know how to get across due to the heavy flow of traffic even when the answer was just right in front of them.
What answer am I talking about? They were standing right in front of a zebra crossing! Yes I mean a zebra crossing. When I got there, I just stepped into it and demanded the vehicles to slow down for me to cross. Yes I had to apply caution because the majority of the motorist themselves do not know what the lines means. Some might have even thought of it as just a common design to beautify the road. I have even heard someone saying it is Tom-Tom advertisement! Many motorists even do not know road signs and speed limits. The only thing they obey when the authority is watching (LASTMA…POLICE) is the traffic light.
MERKABAMALU
So I stepped in, and started making my way to the other side. I could hear some of the women begging the cars to slow down for them to cross even after I had crossed to the other side. Of course they did not bother to follow me because they must have assume that I have gone crazy or I am even trying to get myself killed, as it is only a crazy man that can do what I just did in their world and I am not different from one because I am different from them.
Ignorance is a disease and it kills faster than HIV/AIDS. Many things are wrong in Africa because we Africans don’t know what is right. We sit all day and night complaining to ourself and within our environment about how bad our country is and how the government is not doing this or doing that, if only we know better that we are the government and therefore it is our collective duty to hold the government accountable and demand the will of the populace be done. We see some things every day and most times we do not care to ask questions or perhaps we are too afraid to ask. This my friend, I believe is the problem of Africa and is why we are still struggling with so many things. We see white folks up there and some blacks think they are different from them and worship them as if they are lesser human. God forbid! GOD has created us all as equals and has given us diverse ability to ensure that we all need each other to survive. Our background has a way of making us timid and shutting us up because we think we are small and has nothing to offer. The next time you see something, try to inquire what it is and why it is made that way. You will be surprise what that knowledge can do for you the next minute! Bottom line, ignorance they say is more expensive than education! Educate your child, tell them to find out about things and question why things are in a particular way. Do not shut them up. This way, they will live to be better citizen in their time than we can ever be.

SMH....
I see these people too,I go to a store to buy something, and it never fails, that I see people pick the longest slowest line, not the closest line,or shortest ...
They are just ... domesticated?
I just choose a shorter faster line and smile at them as I walk out and they are still waiting in line.
;-)

lol...it pays to always have a good judgement and knowledge of a situation. you are right. i see this also. even at the ATM...people just queue up at a single machine where there are several because that was where they meet others without caring to ask or check if the other machines are paying.

You will be surprise to find out some people will still don't because they didn't care to find out...This is why ignorance is causing many people a lot without them knowing it.
