THE STRANGER - PAPA'S ADVICE FOR NEWER USERS - PART 1

in steemiteducation •  7 years ago

I've given out a lot of advice during my time on steemit, and here is a little more.

Because of my position in the steemit community, a lot of newer users approach me looking for advice. Most of the time, I try to help them with what I can, but it does take a lot of time some days. When I am able to, I'm blessed to be of assistance.

The other night I was talking with another user in a private chatroom. His questions were good and valid, but they were also common. Basically, they can be summed up as follows:

  • What is it that I am not doing right?
  • How can I grow?

They are good questions indeed, so I'll share some of my response to him with you now, and add in some other insight as well.

BACKGROUND

Often, people see a user like me and they think, "I can do that!" (Maybe not all the venomous snake posts and stuff, but the rest of the posts anyway.)

When someone says something like, "I can do that," I fully agree. In fact, many of you can even do what I do better than @papa-pepper can. Why then is it that you are not doing as well?

That's a tricky question to answer, but the background is important. You see, I did not join last month, or 8 months ago. I've been here for over a year. In that time, I have posted every day without fail, and often it was three or four posts per day. Additionally, I have made tens of thousands (over 20,000) comments and replies, interacting with other users each and every day.

I have worked hard, stayed up late, slept little and invested a lot of time and effort into this community and platform. The posts I make are original and I even provide almost all my own images. I try to be helpful and encouraging, and I have given away thousands of $$$ in prizes, donations and other opportunities.

No one would be able to show up a month or two ago and accomplish all that I have. Basically, I've poured myself out into this community daily for over a year, and the community has responded positively to my efforts. Like everyone else, I never had a guarantee that I would ever get a payout here, but, unlike just about everywhere else online, steemit gave me an opportunity, so I took it!

I mention all of this not as some lame attempt to brag or show how supposedly "great" I am, but to provide you with some insight and background to help you understand. Unless you have multiple friends who are whales, you may have to work very hard for a very long time to achieve similar results on steemit to those that I have attained. If you are not willing to work hard and invest yourself, then you might as well not read any further. I'm not trying to be mean, just serious, because I seriously want to help those who are willing.

A SPECIFIC EVALUATION

When the steemian asked me for help the other night, I had to check out what he had been up to so I could provide him with the honest evaluation that he was asking me for.

Upon looking through his blog history, I realized something, he was basically a "stranger." The posts were few and far between, and the interaction was minimal. As far as the community at large would be concerned, the man was a stranger.

MY ADVICE FOR ALL

In order for people to know you, you have to exist. I know that sounds simple, but it is also true. Millions of people all around the world are not on steemit. From the perspective of members of our community, they do not exist, or at least not in our realm. Sure, they are out there somewhere, but they do not exist in our community.

There are also tons of usernames on steemit that have never posted, voted or commented. The username exits, but people are unaware of their existence. Why? Because the proof of their existence in our community is very small, being just a registered account with a username and nothing more.

Additionally, many have joined steemit, made a post or two, and then stopped. The situation is basically the same for them.

What's my point? My point is, that the easier you are to find, the more likely it is that people will find you. When I checked out the previous month's worth of activity by the user asking for advice, seven posts had been made in the previous month. Basically he posted almost twice a week. Again, unless you knows some whales... this is really not how to grow.

During that same time @papa-pepper would have posted over 100 times. Posting every once in a while is most likely not going to create a huge interest in you. No one will be checking your page every day to see what is new when most days nothing is new there. It is so easy to get lost in people's feeds, that it may be best to create a continued interest by posting consistently.

For those who follow @papa-pepper, they know that there is always something new on my blog page. The worst case scenario in my entire time on steemit is that they would have to wait 24 hours for my next post. Every day people know that I will have something new for them to check out. Sure, they may have been hoping for a gardening post and I posted some humor instead, but still, something new was happening.

INTRODUCING YOURSELF

Here on steemit you pretty much get one shot at a formal "introduceyourself" post. Whoever misses that misses your introduction. Basically, you moved into our very large neighborhood and we missed it. So, will you live out your time in our neighborhood as a stranger, or will you stop by and introduce yourself personally?

Those who missed being part of the welcoming party on your intro post may still want to make friends with you. Perhaps you need to stop by and say hi, just so that you are not a complete stranger. By upvoting a post and leaving a comment, at least they will have seen your username. Whether they reply or not, they should be aware of your existence, and you are now no longer a complete stranger, though they still won't really know you yet.

By commenting on the posts of other people, you are in essence introducing yourself to the neighborhood one person at a time, although others may notice you this way too.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Imagine that you are at your house, and two new neighbors move into your area. One comes over and looks at a pot of flowers that you have on your front porch. They knock on your door, so you open it to greet them. Then, they say, "Nice flowers, can I have them?"

When the other new neighbor stops over, they too notice your pot of flowers and knock on the door. However, this time when you answer, this neighbor says, "Those are amazing flowers there. You must have put in some serious effort to make them look that incredible. I grow flowers too, and brought a few pots with me when I moved. They may not look as nice as yours, but I'm learning."

Which neighbor made a better first impression? Which one will you be more likely to seek out or talk to?

It's the same thing here on steemit. Some strangers are not good at making first impressions. After an author has worked hard on a post and invested a lot of effort, some user that they have never heard of replies with "UPVOTE ME!" How is that for a first impression? For most, people will not seek to get to know such a stranger. For others. they might as well have said, "May I have a FLAG?"

However, when someone leaves a relevant reply, it makes a much better first impression. It may spark an interest for the author to find out who would write such a reply. It may even make other members of the community curious as well.

TRUST ME, WE KNOW!

This may seem like a strange thing to some of the newer users, but those of us who have been here a while already know a few things. Personally, I already know that if someone has an account on steemit, then I can follow them. There is no need to ever tell me that I can follow you, because I already know that I can. I even know how to do it, if I choose to.

Also, many of the more seasoned users on steemit know that if someone with an account makes a post, or even just a comment, we can upvote it. This is common knowledge. Therefore, there is no need to tell me that I can upvote you. I already completely understand that it is an option that I have available. And again, I even know how to do it if I want to.

CONCLUSION OF PART ONE

If you want to be a part of this amazing community that we have, I'd recommend not being a stranger. Exist, and let us know that you do. Invest your time and effort knowing there is no guarantee that you will get a return on that investment, if you are comfortable doing so. If not, just about the entire rest of the internet doesn't even give you the option of possibly reaping a reward for your investment.

Also, as a stranger, you may need to introduce yourself to others. Find interesting authors here and let them know what you think of their posts. Remember, first impressions matter!

The only enemy we fear here in Steemit is laziness. Perseverance is the key. @papa-pepper is right about being persistent.

This was very relevant for a new user like me. I'm so guilty, I've been here for a month and have yet to create an introduction. 😂 🤗

I am still glad to see you here!

Same here. :)
I'm busy comments on posts.
But yes, once I post the introduction, I'll blog every day. And contribute to the community.
It should happen this week.
Thanks papa for the super helpful tips!

Thanks for this advice! I totally agree and always see immediate response and improved engagement when i take the time to really read and comment on posts. Its ALL about engagement and posting, yes!

U have clearly put your heart and soul into the Steemit community, and in such an original and heart connected way. Kudos to you for giving 200% that consistently! U set a fine example!

its not live blog as you can see.. but im sharing the story to inspire and help others learn from my experiences.. Quite some stories there.. I also built a few more since then as part of a workshop education i was doing.. i will be writing about those too!

thanks pappa-pepper .. i guess i don't need to say .. Steem on!

Right, I was just looking for the next post on it. Thanks!

i love this banner! you got it all going on!

Yes, @eco-alex I remember you from another post - Clara's. :)

This comment is to show that I exist on steemit lol

Now that I know you exist, I can choose to upvote and follow, if I desire. Even I know that!

Haha, I needed that laugh, that was good.

Hello @libert. As to show my existence can we be friends

In case anyone wants to see your introduction post,
https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@papa-pepper/papa-pepper-is-on-steemit

Way back in the day! Thanks!

You're welcome, the comment section of that intro post is so different from the ones now.

Yeah, it's not just replies from 10 upvote services and a few spammers.

In fact, I just made an intro post an hour ago and its exactly how you've said it.
https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@sqamemal/why-i-stopped-plagiarizing-and-shitposting
I would be happy if you would check it out.

Thanks for the link, I enjoyed that.

Stranger danger! September 17 is my 2 month anniversary on Steemit so I know how those guys feel. You gave a great game plan here. The post should be on the welcome page of Steemit so those who are ready for a challenge can prepare themselves for what's ahead and those not up for it can go back to Facebook!

Thanks for your kind words! I appreciate it!

Thank you for this great post @papa-pepper😊 though, it hit me that i may have just blew my introduction blog. Haha 😅

I'm just new hear in steemit and still a stranger. Your blog have just given me enough information on how can i move from being a stranger to someone here. Thank you so much.

Looking forward to your next advice.

Thanks @papa-pepper, yours was one of the first blogs I came to and upvote consistently because of the content (I love animals and nature). I'll continue to learn from you...

Even i am new to the community with similar questions in mind.
This surely answers most of them, thanks a lot for posting such a valuable information...

Glad to hear it! You're welcome!

I am still struggling here though.
Hope above mentioned information helps all those who happen to be beginners in this exciting community!!

There are also tons of usernames on steemit that have never posted, voted or commented. The username exits, but people are unaware of their existence. Why? Because the proof of their existence in our community is very small, being just a registered account with a username and nothing more.

The ones that really baffle me are the whale accounts with over 100,000 SP but a reputation of 25 and zero posts. And if you look at their wallets, page after page of people who've sent them 0.001 SBD.

Myself, I don't think I have ever posted seven days in a row. Occasionally twice a day, but usually three or four a week. I've never been prolific, so it's a growth area for me. 😅

But I am slowly ramping up my frequency of posting. At some point, Steemit will leave the beta stage (does anyone have an idea of when this might be?) behind and Go Big. I would like to be positioned for that in a more meaningful way than I am now.

Great advice @papa-pepper
Keep it real and from the heart and interact with the community and you will grow. I mean you summed it up really well. Take care.

You summed it up well too! Thanks!

I fully agreed with you @papa-pepper. When I first knew about steemit. My first thought was that it sounds too good to be true. but the more searched for info about it the more it looks real so I decide to give it a try.

In my very first weeks I realized that didn't really worth to spend like 4 or 5 hours trying to compose a perfect post couse the reality is, as you said, when you are brand new here people doesn't even know you exist, therefore it don't really makes sense to believe that you will rock and become as famous as those veteran users who already dedicate themselves to show their presence and attract people's attention with great quality content, in your firsts months here. that will just not happen.

So in my very first weeks after I fail miserable to make posts I've spent hours making. I realized that First of all I needed understand better how does steemit works. which tools and services were good to help new ones. and more important make my self exist in this community.

summarizing in order to not make a reply bigger than Papa's post. After 3 months studying about steemit, interacting with users, I fell Like i'm following a good path. I'm sure just in the very beginning of long journey but every master must to be an apprentice first, and to mastering something is the process to invest your time and soul on something. if you really do that it's just a matter of time.

Your hard work will be rewarded, just invest yourself wisely on it.

No evil grass shall stand against me

I have that same hat!

Raiden's Hat is very practical and useful.

Also Provide's +15 in magical defense!

Your Steemit chain is badass

Once a famous comedian, I think, said :
I worked 10 years, to become an overnight success.

I did not understand how steemit worked until about 2 weeks ago and I am still learning more every day. I thank you for taking the time to explain this... I think maybe it would be a good idea to explain to people that it's important to build a following of active users. Just following everybody you see with the hopes that they will follow you back doesn't seem to be a good strategy. I have seen hundreds of profiles like that that seem to have given up and moved on to other things. I am starting to use tools like steem now and this new one called spectacles to help understand better how the site really works. I wish there was a way to reorganize the site when viewing so that I could more easily see when a person has followed me so that I could check them out to see if they have content that I want to follow. Right now, it automatically sort of drops them into an alphabetical listing... so pruning my list of follows is hard work. But I'm doing it. I check my feed every day and when I see posts that I like and are interesting I comment and upvote. And when I see posts that are obviously spammy or completely not interesting I ignore... if I see too many posts like that in my feed I unfollow. Is that a good strategy do you think @papa-pepper? Thanks again for your wisdom and experience on this. It's a learning process indeed.

Your strategy sounds better than mine. My followed section is a mess and I think that I may need to start over!

Thanks for this very informative post, this really helps us on how to post and earn here in Steemit. Keep it up!!

A great post, even thought I have been here over two months now I always like to read post like this to see if I have missed anything and work to improve how I post and interact on here, looking forward to number 2

Getting it ready now!

Great

have a good week

im totally agree to what you said about. Me myself have a hard time in here to be aka newbie in here. It need time to be known in here. A hard work will definitely will make you proud to what you will achieve in the future. Patient is a must have in this steemit. It will not guarantee a success but you will learn something in the process. experience...

Great attitude! It is hard to be new. I remember that well.

good share of knowledge about steemit, thanks

What a great, great, great Post.

You are so right. What you shared with us is so significant for every newbie here.
Success comes not overnight also yours not like you told us.

I see it often, and also I got those questions even I am also a newbie.
We need to patient and do our homework. Without effort its sure that someone will not grow.

I like it that you use your position to help newbies that you share your experiences and tips.

Great post.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks @papa-pepper for the information after being on Steemit since May I finally decided to post my Introducemyself post last week. Over these past few months I have been commenting and replying to many posts thinking that I would just enjoy the community and learn from everyone what I could. Recently I thought I would try my hand at posting some of my own original material and see what kind of feedback and response I would get from the Steemit community. I have realistic expectations however knowing that if I do many anything at all it will not be much at first rather than expecting say $50 for my first few posts...not that I would turn it down mind you :-D Just wanted to pop in here and say thanks to the Steemit community and to the interactions I have had with many of you!

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Hola buen post gracias por compartirlo con nosotros, resteem💜

Is this based on reality or more speculation?

Awesome @papa-pepper, I am too a newbie here and searching for a better help and guide to show myself to the community . Your post will help more of like me. And for introducing post i also hasn't posted when i join this community. Buy now i am thinking to focus on making friends and posting a quality content..And also contributing the steemit society.
Thanks for your help @papa-peppee

(And i am very very sorry for my english, As i am from nepal my english is only good as this much.)

Your English is better than every other language I have to offer, so don't worry about it. I hope my advice helps, I have more to come.

Very practical advice for the beginners if they could understand and act upon it. Thank you sir, I learnt a lot. Steemit allows all to keep documenting and posting their daily activities in photoshoot form and anybody can do this continuously to earn a good name at Steemit.

You are truly a papa here on steemit and also you articles are hot like pepper @papa-pepper

I just got schooled lolzzz...

This is a really great piece of advice for not only newbies but steemians that have been here a while too! Thanks for the thorough post. Oh, and I like neighbor # 2 better.

Point noted : Don't be a stranger!

From my few months on steemit i have to say and agree on whatever you mentioned above. Keeping consistent posts and interaction does improve the profile. Although whenever i tried to post un orginal (derivative) posts. It dint helped me much but posting my thoughts or making an original helped me gain to connect with like minded and more friends.
It's not easy for sure, but in the long run, its worth time investing in it. By blogging you learn yourself too as a bonus you make new friends and earn too.

Excellent post. Especially the part about having to work hard. I think to many people just expect to get rich without actually having to work for it. I try to put on a couple hours everyday on Steemit... mostly commenting other people's posts ... sometimes posting my own... but regardless of what I'm doing I'm trying to get myself out there. I understand that it's not going to be easy and I'm going to have to invest a lot of time and probably a fair share of money to get where I want to be.. and that's okay.

For too many, hard work is too hard, and too much work.

This is what I have been looking for, ever since I joined Steemit. Strangers as I felt, I even posted a inquiry about getting bigger here with no response. Probably I looked like an stranger. I am sure, your post should help me a lot better now.

Thank you @papa-pepper

I EXIST

Thanks for the advice, I will try to follow it.

Awesome post, Mr Pepper... Kinda reiterates what I already figured was the case, but solidifies my knowledge a bit and gives me some motivation to keep with this even though I know not much will probably come from it at first. Persistence is key though, and I have to commend you on your's, as well. Not many people have the dedication to stick with this like you have. Congrats on your current success here on steemit and thanks again for your contributions! I will put your advice to good use!

I've fallen into that weird zone where I've never gotten to making an introduction post. But almost everyone who interact with me kinda knows me (i hope).

So its like "Hmm do i still need to introduce myself?"

Nevertheless you are absolutely correctly. As hypocritical as it sounds, I tell everyone im bringing into steemit to make an introduction post, despite the fact that i haven't gotten to making one.

I think the biggest concern with me is that i've only got one shot at it. So i have this personally expectation to make it as epic as possible. and in the meanwhile bide my time until i have what it takes to create what is basically "my brand" to the way i want it to be.

Nevertheless, you are correct in all you say. Even with your top-tier quality posts multiple times a day, The reason you have the recognition you get is not because if your effort for that post. it is the culmination of your work over the whole year, 12 months, 365 days, non-stop. Many of us dont see your 1 dollar posts, 7 cent posts, 0 cent posts..

I am happy to have observed that it is us, the ones who stay dedicated even with the 7 cent posts, the 1 dollar posts, those who dont give up.. Are the ones who makes it. You being the prime example i always look to confirmation and motivation.

Thank you for being the @papa-pepper you are. You inspire us and altruistically teach you all you know. all we have to do is pay attention and learn from you.

You may be the biological father of your kids. But on here, you're the de-facto virtual dad figure we all listen to.

Stay awesome!

The reason you have the recognition you get is not because if your effort for that post. it is the culmination of your work over the whole year, 12 months, 365 days, non-stop.

Absolutely true! Can I quote you in Part 2?

Owh my goodness! please DO!!! It would be an absolute honor to have @papa-pepper quote what i say.

Hey thanks for the advices, I see that the key is being constant

Thanks Paps

Well you forgot the part about having awesome facial hair though. That really seems to help in my experience, and you definitely have that going for you ;) Ladies don't worry eyebrows sort of count

Well you forgot the part about having awesome facial hair though.

That doesn't come up until Part 4, so be patient.

Ah I should have known you would have it covered in a future installment papa! Forgive me! I am usually a very patient man, but I have been a little yunked up since I saw your open mic entry this week. Which also may have been why I was thinking about your awesome facial hair. Hypnotizing LOL

LOL - You saw that huh?

yes, I watched the entire thing. I couldn't look away actually. It was... oddly compelling. Almost disturbing. But the yunk flows strong in you and I could feel that, so all in all a great performance

nice post buddy keep going. @maruf121

This is a very useful post for beginners!

Unfortunately - the type of poster who will come along and ask you for your flowers will not actually take the time to read it

Fortunately - the type of poster who will compliment your flowers will take the time to read it and as a result will choose to stay and learn and work at it

Like anything in life, it's natural selection of sorts - it's a shame that more don't realize that

Cheers

I hope that illustration I used helps some people understand.

Nobody puts more work into Steemit than you do!

I really like this line:

"there is no need to tell me that I can upvote you. I already completely understand that it is an option that I have available"

Thanks for all your amazing posts :)

WOW! That is amazing!

I had the same thing for dinner~

The beginning is very hard on Steemit. Especially if you do not have a circle of friends to support you in the first place with upvotes. You practically go from scratch. You have to create your little community of followers. You must post regularly, even if no one votes for you. You have to insist, even if at first it's somewhat frustrating. This article offers a new perspective, a new approach. The fact that you are a stranger here is true. It's a socialization platform first of all, so you have to make yourself known here. You have to make yourself known in a natural way, without forcing things. These are my conclusions about Steemit after two 12 days of use. It's like opening your own blog on the internet. And there is very hard to make your own blog known. I will go before even if the road is difficult. Success you create with a lot of work.

Well worth the read for any newer users, including myself. I have been commenting practically each day since I started, being a part of the community and providing either support or valuable/valid comments etc while getting use to blogging myself (since I never really have).

I know it takes time but I am working hard to continually grow and it is thanks to experienced Steemians such as yourself, that I can continue to do so and strive to do well! @papa-pepper

See, I knew you weren't getting much sleep. Just yesterday I thought, does this guy sleep ever? How is he managing kids and a homestead and all this writing and videos? I'm wondering if you have a time turner.

Don't worry, I get at least a half hour each night!

I bet that's accurate. It's awesome you work so hard. Lots of lazy people in this world.

Thank you @papa-pepper. I am a week on steemit and taking in all the information is an uphill task. I have Facebooked for years, but no presence on Twitter or Youtube so a beginner at social marketing. In fact I had nothing really to sell. Now that I have time I can perhaps explore my interests in photography, travel, art, humour and share them with others.

I see that a good introduction is necessary and I did post in the introduce yourself channel and hopefully made 5 initial contacts from that post.

On balance I don't think my intro was that great.

Have you any thoughts on moving forward from that?

Thanks you @papa-pepper for making this post of how to be successful on Steemit. That was great and I am very grateful for your help. I try to make at least one post a day and try to comment and get involved and sometimes it pays off, and sometimes it feels like it's not, but I still work hard and try to be patient because I really enjoy this community. It's not overnight making big bucks, but what I like is that I'm growing and learning. What did you mean when you said about steem.chat & discord; drop links to your post, how exactly do I do that? Do I just include them in my post by @steem.chat? Thanks for that great advice.

https://steemit.chat/ is a place with many rooms for promoting your posts. If you copy your post url, you can share it there with others.

Thank you so much again for helping out. Very appreciated

upvoted and resteemed. Thanks for putting out a constant stream of great information for all of us minnows! I'm all in on Steem! I learn something new from every one of your posts.

Cheers! @rebele93

Great post, Papa!

I always use the analogy of a person who is selling a book.

Would you walk up to a stranger and say "Here, buy my book!" and get upset when the person says "No, go away."?

Or would a better option be to say "Hi! I'm princessmewmew, it's so nice to meet you! I see that you love science fiction! Me too, man! I'd love you to check out my book sometime"

I always say to newbies to act as they would in real life. Be polite, be civil, and be genuinely interested in the other person and you Will do well 😊

I had always heard a lot about you, but never actively checked you out. Here I am! New follower, thank you for this super post!

Good analogy!

I've been here for a week or so, and this is a great help. Im actually embarrassed because Im guilty of nagging people to follow me, lol. Thanks for the tip. so now, pls dont follow me hahaha :D

This is all so true!! Every time I come to your blog I am always too certain of gaining something new to help me either your original posts or comments....I joined steemit in August but just started writing like last week, it hasnt been a ball ride but i know it will keep getting better once i am patient enough and keep working....thank you so very much

I completely agree with you. Many people don't realize what it takes to get there. They see the end result only and fall into the trap of thinking that it was an "overnight success". It's never the case though. I think what many don't realize is that just putting out content is not enough... even if the content is awesome. People need to create relationships and engage and interact too. And that is something that many are not willing to do. Have a great day Papa!

Hi @papa-peper i admit that i am one of the users that will say that "Upvote me". But since I read this post I will never do it again and I will do my best to impart my suggestion and opinions about the topic. I will also remember it in my memory that in order to have positive outcome here in steemit I will invest my time here well.
I am inspired with your post.
Thank you for the lesson that you shared to me and to other steemians.

@papa-pepper promoted a pick of premium posts.
If @papa-pepper promoted a pick of premium posts,
which pick of premium posts did @papa-pepper promote?

Most of this is just common sense and good manners. But somehow, so many folks don't see it. Then again, those people are here to make money (they think), and not to make community. Personally, yeah - I'd like to make some cash. But that is not even a 'top' reason why I came to steemit. I wanted authenticity, I wanted fresh literature and art, I wanted to meet folks who wanted these things. And I have found that on steemit, as well as the bots and the beggars and the freakers. Real life, it seems, follows us even into here. Great read Papa. Thanks.

here to make money (they think), and not to make community.

That is a BIG difference. Can I quote you on that in a future post?

Absolutely. I'd be honored.

I've been your avid follower ever since I joined here, although there are posts of yours that I do not read, still I enjoyed your videos where you feature some animals. In fact I am starting to lost my fear of snakes because of your consistent videos about it. By the way, I am also new here so thank you for this wonderful advice.

Thanks for the advice. I have grasped a few points that will help me grow here on Steemit. Not many people will set time to help others to grow. I agree with you that first impressions matter a lot.

For those who have much, much is required :) You are helpful to all of us in every post you make papa-pepper .. We all have so much to learn from you and your beautiful family .. Everyday I am excited to find your posts - You may have a post that has been out for 8+ hours and I still go looking for them to see what fun you have shared that day .. Keep doing what you do .. We all can learn so much from you .. you are a real inspiration to a lot of people and this is why they seek you for advise and direction .. I love that you find time for them in your very busy day .. YOU ARE APPRECIATED!!! Love you Friend! SUNSHINE247

All you say is true of course, pretty much common sense. That's the way things work in real life and it should work the same here. Great post as always :)

Thanks for sharing us as well what tips you shared to a fellow Steemian ☺. And some more for us to digest. I will keep in mind what you shared here @papa-pepper.

I am a new user. Reading all your explanation @papa-pepper. I see that you are very famous by your originality. I think I will learn a lot from you. How will I reach you if I have a question?

steemit.chat is a good place for private messaging.

I really learned a lot from you @papa-pepper. Thanks for always having the time to share knowledge to new users like me. Good luck and God bless :)

Hello . As to show my existence can we be friends.

Sure, why not :)

Beautiful post and video for steemit users. We need reminders to have patience, be consistent with quality content. Thank you.

Great advices, thanks for the valuable info, this is very helpful for new people like me

Wow what a great post. I wanted to talk to you and pick your brain a little about steemit but i felt like i would be just waisting your time. Thank you for the great article and yes we are always looking for your next post lol. Thanks again.

I'll be sharing more on the subject, so hopefully it'll help!

This is actually my first time, I'm entering ur post cos I've been hearing a lot about you in most of our chat groups on how you are one of the greatest writers, who post a lot in just a day and I really commend you for that bcos is not an easy task. I want to appreciate this word of advice you just gave to many of us newcomers in the steemit community and will follow up with d rest of the series. I've learnt a thing or two in this post. Thanks

"Pap out,✌🏻" haha love it. Great idea to develop a series as a way to spread content and keep readers coming back. I really like that you focus on hard work and consistency too. You've worked hard to get where you are and it's cool to see how much you interact with people still.

Your words of wisdom are a great inspiration @papa-pepper 😎 I am taking notes 👌 thank you for advice!

Thank you @Papa-pepper! I try to emulate your advice. Been making effort in posting at least once a day, and joining contests so that I can have interactions with others users having similar interests. If I have plenty of time, I do go out of my way and greet the new members in the Steemit community. As a minnow, I know exactly how it feels to feel lonely after posting your introduceyourself post, not knowing if someone would acknowledge you after introducing yourself.

With that said, I look forward to the day I join your Steem-pocalypse contest series. Season 6 well on its way when I first signed up here on Steemit.

Papa bringing the common sense down! Careful spreading that stuff around, it might start catching on 😎

(I'm still waiting for the emoji with the Steemit chain to be released, for now at least we've got sunglasses)

LOL!! Thanks @raised2b!

I wish I had this when I first started. Where can we find the list?

Wow that is some great advice. I have gotten the comments I followed you can follow me. Then I think do I really want to follow them.I am more likely to follow someone who actually takes the time to make a real comment than someone telling me to follow them. So I check out their post and if I like what they are posting I might follow them. And ther are always the people who make a post and never follow up or interact with the people on their post and wondering why they are not getting anywhere on steemit. I think the best part of steemit is the interaction with each other.

Great post! I'm new here and this advices are really useful for me

I'm with you, it's all about making connections and mutual relationships with other users. Btw, love the Steemit chain necklace. ^o^

I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have.

This was an interesting read @papa-pepper. I didn't come to steemit for the money (even though it's nice to get upvoted) I enjoy blogging about my life, when I first came here and my first post was met by people saying follow me, upvote me and I did because I didn't know better back then. Now I only follow people if I have an interest in what they have to say. some people I follow make amazing posts but don't get any traction.
I spend hours a day on here making posts leaving comments and replying to comments people have left for me. It's nice to have these people who interact with you and even though I am new (about 6 weeks) I am slowly getting a nice reputation score. The money from upvotes is getting turned to steem so one day in the future I will be able to upvote posts that I think are worth more than a couple of pence. Thanks for posting this and I think that this is critical that newbies who have just joined should give part one a read.

Hello @papa-pepper ... thank you for these tips and advice... i joined last month and been searching and reading this kind of posts and show you exist is always included on the list. We, newbies, are lucky as there are awesome people like you ready to share, help and mentor,,, i bet during your time, there will be limited resources. Indeed, real effort and hardwork are required to make name and it wont be built in very short time. I need to work on posting everyday as I always try to have good and unique topic... Average post in a week is 2/3... need to improve it... Thank you once again and looking forward to your Advice Part 2 ☺️

Thats great advice @papa-pepper

I will get on making my introduction post asap!

Totally makes sense, don't know why I was trying to be so private?

Must be because this is the first and only social media site I have ever been on at 50 years old.

Keep the SteemitEducation posts coming!

ps; any suggestions for investing STEEM?
I just bought 4500 on Bittrex should I deposit into my username account? lease it out? any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks.

@papa-pepper Your my hero!

Super post and packed with great advice. I'm going to resteem this one and get it out there. Thanks for all you do @papa-pepper .

wow @papa-pepper this post was absolutely awesome and necessary.. I got a lot out of it! I loved your first impression analogy's :) it was very insightful and I'm really glad I took the time to read this. I've been a fun little fan of yours since the start for me which was only last month but its nice to see that your still a human 😂 .. at the end of the day I really suppose all of this just takes time and effort. good content with consistent interaction and positivity will surely bring success:) I think for a lot of us newbies we feel pressure to succeed instantaneously and grow right away because of the dreamworld we see here but patience is a virtue ! I finally snapped a picture the other night in south Florida with me and a baby night lizard !!! I was real excited to post it for you somewhere but I wasn't sure where to do it lol. just let me know where:)

I would just make an actual post out of it and let me know!

ah okay perfect! I shall do it in the morning on the way into the Adirondacks:) going camping with pops should be fun.. il let ya know ✌️

This is an amazingly honest, blunt post.
So much truth to every word and analogy. The neighborly first impression was spot on in comparison to the follow me/you, UPvote me/you of members I see everyday commenting.

I read most of your posts and comment occasionally but this post really spoke to me.

I read most of your posts and comment occasionally but this post really spoke to me.

Thank you for letting me know. Obviously I like to have fun and share, but advice like this is needed periodically. I'm glad that you enjoyed the analogy.

Agreed. 100x100x100%. 😉
Nailed it again @papa-pepper.

I myself wanted to come up with a post daily but circumstances are not with me at the moment and I feel bad for my less interaction the past few days... 😑

Anyhow, there's a post sitting on my drafts for 2 days now and it needs to go today.. hopefully...

Have a great day everyone!

Cheers,
@arrliinn

Go for it and get it posted! Thanks @arrliinn!

Thanks @papa-pepper! Finally had a chance. 😉

Amazing advice from my Steemit Papa. You know I love you, right! I have been here for 3 months now and it's consistency that really took me this far, some of my friends gave up because their eyes were on quick dollars. I feel happy everyday to belong here. Cheers to all committed steemians!

I watched the whole 18 video series. I want to make a video with me in it but I get so nervous I start shaking. I have been tring everyday for a week now. You seem so relaxed when you do your videos do you have any ideas on what I can do to relax in front of the video camera?

Thank you for the advice! You are so generous to the community and I am inspired to keep trying to post so I can give back as much someday too. You rock!

"Nice flowers, can I have them?"

What a great example of what constitutes an unimpressive comment/introductory remark! The way you convey these messages is fantastic. I got my laugh for the day from this article. Thanks for the good medicine. After all, they say that laughter is the best medicine!

This is a great post for new users like me. Though my reputation is 34 , I haven't posted as "introduce myself " . This is what I lacked. As there were none to teach me. Your work and post has inspired me alot. Wish I could give you 200%. Keep teaching us . Shall I need to write introduce myself post?

@papa-pepper I am working full time aside from blogging here in Steemit. What I usually do is that I spend some of my time creating a new blog post and then once submitted, that's the time that I interact with people. I try to submit even one post per day due to my schedule. I believe that interacting with others will be the most beneficial instead of just upvoting their post.

Really liked when you compared Steemit with our real life neighbourhood! It makes absolute sense! :) A lot of people are thinking about Steemit as a fast way to make money, but as I keep reading posts like yours, I'm seeing it as a 24/7 job! :) A lot of effort is necessary to write great quality contents and to engage with others. But it is also very rewarding, not only in a financial way (because I'm not seeing much money these days! :D), but also in the relationships we are building here! Right now for me, this is the best part: reading interesting posts, engaging with the authors, find common areas and keep the relationship as a new friend we just made! As that new neighbour we just met and left a great impression on us :) Just a reminder: one day I'll do better than you! :D

Thank you, I understood some things reading this post. I have often thought "I want to be like @papa-pepper" but I've never poured myself into this community as you did. I'm not really confortable with having no guarantees that my time will have a payout, but as you say it's a matter of alternatives. I don't know any other site yet that is willing to reward me for what I write!

It is an interesting opportunity that we are offered and we each much make our own choice whether we want to risk our time and effort or not.

Congratulations @papa-pepper!

great tips i just not too good with self introductions on video so i just introduced myself in some simple way but, the posts here disappear so fast and no one check even a few days back. and another "problem" - when the newcomer trying to introduce him/herself - with the zero number of followers no one say hello, except a few who asked to follow them back.. so as example it sounds like the newcomer knocked your door to say how beautiful your flowers and you said - invite me to your home and give your flowers as a gift :-)) (sure, i'm talking not about you specifically - just used your sample :-))
going to read part II

A very helpful post. I wish it was 30 days earlier. Then I could have grown a bit more and better. :P
Thanks anyway. Appreciate your help @papa-pepper

And a question for you.
People comment a lot on your post. Do you see all the comments ?
They might have commented about interesting things or "upvote me" stuffs that should be avoided.
I don't think everyone sees all the comment.
Then commenting on someone's post late where he/she already have already a lot of comments to reply to is hardly useful.
I know I did comment on many people's posts like that where I didn't get any response. It's probably because I was too late to comment and not all comments are possible to read calmly for people like you.

P.S. Don't take it as an insult by "people like you" . I was trying to say that people like you who were best known on steemit.

Thanks. Awaiting you reply :)

I used to read every comment, but now some do get missed. People even comment on posts from many months ago, so I do not see them all, although I try.

Yeah. I understand. It's very tough to react for every comments. :p

Thank you so much just what I needed......

More coming my friend!

As usual a great post from papa-pepper!

I haven't been online much for the past 10 days due to hurricanes and life in general. I wasn't in the hurricane but family and friends were so I got busy getting them to safety! Everyone ok, but water damage in houses.

How are you doing these days, papa-pepper? I know you've had some rough times. Hope things are better!

Having been here a couple weeks, I've waited for my introduction to find out what Steemit is truly all about. I've learned a lot! And this helps me learn even more. You'll see me around soon enough and even get to know me (the new stranger on the BLOCKchain)

what a wonderful and informative post @papa-pepper. no doubt about these tips or points are very useful for all Steemians !

SUCH a great post - thank you! I'll go read the follow-ups in a minute... I just wanted to say that I have been 'off' Steemit for about 11 months because I got discouraged and kind of overwhelmed by how little I understood the platform and why it wasn't responding to my posts the way it was responding to a ton of other content that looked comparatively unoriginal and uninteresting to me. Honestly, I think I got a bit salted ;o) I also couldn't figure out a few things and got frustrated with how clunky it all was, and the fact that posts don't 'earn' anything after a few hours, and especially how they cease to be editable... Anyway. I've finally decided to get over myself and give it another go, and I was encouraged immediately by the fact that I actually figured out how to cash in some of my earnings right away upon returning, something I totally failed to manage 11 months ago. So here I am! And I'm glad you were one of the first people I 'discovered' upon returning, because you have some GREAT content (and some seriously cute kids!) and posts like this are just really encouraging and very inspiring. So, thank you Papa Pepper! Jay

That's certainly understandable, but I'm glad to hear that you are back to give it another go!

Thank you! I'm actually really glad to be back! It's such a great place to connect with edgy, forward-thinking people. Like you and your Pepper Clan! :o)

I really loved the video you included in this post - especially the bit about remaining positive and upbeat, and being yourself: good advice in ANY situation, and definitely super-relevant here :0)
