The biggest mistake I've made on steemit so far...

And it involves another woman's account... After tossing it up for so long I decided to pull the trigger and buy some bitcoin... the market is low, now is a great time to buy. On top of that I got a pretty decent rate, so I was happy.

The plan all along was to invest it into steemit, so I jumped on blocktrades sent over my bitcoin and got 57 steem. Now im excited, made my purchase, its in my account.
Only problem is.... I havent told my wife yet. To cushion the blow, the plan was transfer half to her account @mumma-monza... if your paying attention, you now see whats happened

I'd written in the sum, written my little witty memo to hopefully inflate that cushion that was intended to soften the blow. All that was left was the account to send it to @mumma-monza. I typed in mum and a list of names popped up for me to choose from. There it was @mumma-monza, I clicked on it and clicked submit.

On the next page I was prompted to enter my password, which is great keeps our accounts secure! However, now that I've experienced this first hand, it doesn't display the details you previously entered, to allow you to double check what you entered.

It wasn't unril the third page loaded saying 28.5 steem has been sent to @mum that my heart sunk... Now, not only do I have to tell my wife I spent $100 without talking to her first she was busy teaching a class, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it Now I'll also have to explain who this @mum is, and why the hell I'm sending her $50.

I'm not trying to shift the blame, this was entirely stupidity on my behalf. I should have slowed down and double checked everything. Im guessing when I clicked @mumma-monza it didnt have enough time to load before i had clicked Submit. Although it is a simple thing that maybe you guys @steemit should consider adding?

Luckily for me my wife saw the funny side of things, but she's been giving me shit about it ever since... which is fair, I deserve it. To be honest I was expecting a very different reaction so I can handle her giving me a hard time for a while.

The worst part is the account has been inactive for 2 years and has never even been posted on. Good chance somone signed up and lost their password, so it's not like I can contact them and even ask if they would send it back.

Well I learnt a valuable lesson... literally.

If it's any consolidation to you, before when you had to type the name of the person you were sending funds to, I wrote in "miller" instead of "millers" a few times and had the same awful gut feeling you had.

Tried to contact the account with 0.001 Steem messages, looked around on the chats, but no such luck.

Probably one of those accounts that was mined the crap out of back in the day when people were doing that stuff to make millions!

Ohhh well, such is life.

Learned really quickly to double and triple check everything.

This new option where the droplist shows up is actually a great help, but it doesn't nullify human error, it just makes it easier for people to NOT make mistakes, because we don't have to type the entire username each time.

Lessons learned, the hard way!

Such is life!

PS. Buildawhale should be dropping a vote soon, consider it my shout at the pub to drown our sorrows!

Thank you so much @jackmiller. Wow that vote has put a massive smile on my face...

Yeah definitely a hard lesson to learn. I'm just glad
It wasnt more than $50.

You poor barstard. Betcha missus is given you a caining. We’ve all stuffed up this type of thing.
The saying measure twice cut once is very appropriate with any crypto transactions.

Your spot on there.
She's dealt with it pretty well. Writing something on steemit probably how much of an idiot her husband is lol

Are you a chippy?
"cut once, measure twice"

Aww 😤 I wondered why it happens on android? I am using an iPhone and only usernames I FOLLOWED appear. Did you follow @mum?
image.png

No, I had typed in mum and @mumma-monza popped up, but when I clicked on @mumma-monza, it didn't load.
I actually tried it again later showing my wife and when I clicked on @mumma-monza it didn't load at all, when I refreshed the page and tried again it did work.
But definitely a lesson to slow down and double check everything. The @mum account looks like it was created and never used. 😩

I'm sorry. I tried on android gosh it's not as smooth as on my outdated iPhone. Better not use android again for transfers. 😤 But #blocktrades works well from chrome on android than my iPhone.

Handy to know. Thanks for the info @pinay

Oh I'm sorry that it is transferred to an inactive account, else you can maybe chat with the person and probably get it back. This is a valuable lesson but with quite a price to pay. Thanks for sharing some I can be more careful in my transfer too.

Maybe it can make you feel better if I tell you a similar story, hopefully. My husband accepts steem for his burger shop. One day, one of our fellow Steemit friends came and yes he transferred Steem to an account without counter checking with my husband the right handle. Haha he too sent it to an inactive account. Then he had to transfer again to my husband's account the same amount again. From then on, my husband created a brand new account for his business. Lol.

Well, we will get better at this. It is not the same platform as Facebook or Twitter or instagram, Hehe. It is really good you and @mumma-monza can laugh at it! Love that part! :) Regards to you and wife and family!

Hey. Burgers for STEEM sounds like a great deal.

Mmmmmmmmmmm

Thanks alot @happycrazycon.
I think its awesome that your husband accepts steem at his shop. I hope more businesses start to do the same.

Sounds like it has happened to quite a few people...
I wonder what the biggest amount is that somebody has lost on steemit from entering the wrong details?

Hahahahah.

I did something similar a couple of days ago.

I sent $5 SBD to @smart instead of @smartsteem.

Similarly, @smart is a dead account which VARIOUS people have sent SBD to...

You too.
Yeah, it's not a nice feeling....

Aw, I got to the other side of it and was able to laugh at myself.

Sorry to laugh, it seemed like a, “it’s funny now” type of post.

Lol, no don't apologize...
I've learnt my lesson,
All that can be done is laugh about it now.😋

Oops. I have realised the same thing. It doesn't show you the sender address again once you submit. Password prompt should be movable to see the earlier page.
Unfortunately windows has made us used to so many confirmations before doing anything.

Yeah it would be a minor adjustment for them to make, but would save alot of people from loosing funds. It seems this is more common than I realized.
